Rising Sun and Chesapeake City are the two unbeaten teams after the first two days of the Little League Maryland District 5 9-10 baseball tournament being played at Biles Field in Rising Sun. They are scheduled to meet tonight (Thursday, June 26), at 5:30 p.m.
The winner of that game advances to the championship round Monday night at 5:30. Elkton and Havre de Grace play Friday at 5:30 in the losers bracket. Wednesday, June 25 Elkton 8, Perryville 1 Kyle Polaski, Adam Pressler, and Kaiden Mellott combined on a one-hitter for Elkton. UPDATE: Perryville plays North East in the district title game tonight (Thursday, June 26) at 6 p.m. at Perryville Little League.
Perryville advanced to the championship round of the Little League Maryland District 5 Major Division softball tournament with a 14-3 triumph over Rising Sun Tuesday night, June 24. Perryville tallied twice in the top of the first inning to take the lead for good. Kristyn Gardner was hit by a pitch and Mara Little walked. Payton Jourdan reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases when Rising Sun made sure the runner on third did not try to score instead of throwing to first. Chesapeake City and Elkton prevailed on the first night of the Little League Maryland District 5 9-10 baseball tournament Monday in Rising Sun. Chesapeake City downed Perryville 14-3 in five innings in the opening game of the tournament. Leading 5-3 heading into the top of the fifth, Chesapeake City tallied nine times to end the game. It all started innocently enough as Lance Fehlman led off with a walk and eventually scored on an error. Rising Sun and Perryville emerged from the opening weekend as the undefeated teams in the Little League Maryland District 5 Major Division softball tournament being held at Trego Field in Perryville. The two teams will meet Tuesday, June 24 at 5 p.m.
Sunday, June 22 Rising Sun 7, North East 6 Rising Sun scored the tying and go-ahead runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth and made another good defensive play in the top of the sixth to secure the thrilling victory. Rising Sun and Perryville emerged unbeaten from the opening weekend of the Major Division district tournament.
Rising Sun nipped North East 7-6 Sunday followed by Perryville's 8-6 triumph over Elkton. Photos of those two games will be posted online Monday. Rising Sun and Perryville will square off at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the winner's bracket. In the first game Monday, Chesapeake City plays Elkton at 5 p.m. followed by Havre de Grace vs. North East North East and Elkton won opening round games in the Major Division All-Star tournament Saturday evening at Perryville Little League. North East downed Chesapeake City 17-2 in four innings to kick off the District 5 tournaments. North East tallied five times in the top of the first without benefit of a hit. Hannah Gordon led off with a walk. After an out, Morgan Sargent walked and Maddie Ewing was hit by a pitch. Maddie Husfelt then walked to drive in the first run of the game. Aubrey Runyans also drew a walk in the inning and Maranda Barbon drove in a run with a groundout. Chesapeake City countered with two in the home half. Layla Pardee walked and Allaina Sliker reached on an infield hit when North East threw late to second in an attempt to get a force. Pardee eventually scored on a wild pitch and Olivia Wilson also walked and scored in the inning. North East added three more in the second with one of the runs scoring on an error on a chopper of the bat of Katie Crouch. In the third, Sargent sliced an RBI triple down the right field line to key a three-run inning. North East put the game away with six runs in the fourth. Husfelt ignited the uprising with a groundball double down the third base line.Elaina Owens contributed a triple to right and Barbon delivered a two-run single. Crouch had an infield single and scored and Ewing smashed a two-run single to center. Sargent recorded six strikeouts to get the win. In the nightcap, Elkton topped Havre de Grace 11-1 in four innings. Elkton took command with five runs in the first. Bella Barbato was hit by a pitch and Grace Harkey, Mary Bramble, Ashley Weber and Mackenzie Sweeney each walked. Haley Krone drove in a run when she reached on an error. Weber knocked in a run with a groundout in the second and Sweeney produced a two-run single with a bloop near the second base bag. Winning pitcher Olivia Wheel notched seven strikeouts. For Havre de Grace, Sydney Hash singled twice and Emily Gutierrez doubled in the lone run. |
