Neither team scored in the fourth quarter. The Rising Sun baseball team was one strike away from advancing to the UCBAC championship game.
Instead, the Tigers suffered another heartbreaking defeat to North Harford. The Hawks claimed the Chesapeake Division title with a 6-5 triumph over Rising Sun with the tying and go-ahead runs scoring on a two-out, two-strike, two-run single in the top of the seventh. Sarah Yashinskie paced the Tigers with four goals and four assists. The Perryville girls placed third and the boys finished fifth at the UCBAC Track and Field Championships which concluded Friday at North East. Sierra Montz scored points in all four of her individual events to pace the Panthers. Montz was second in the intermediate hurdles, fifth in the high hurdles, sixth in the long jump, and seventh in the triple jump. The Rising Sun baseball team improved to 14-1 on the season with victories over Elkton and North East.
Cole Benjamin recorded 15 strikeouts and allowed just two hits and one earned run in the Tigers' 4-2 triumph over Elkton Thursday. Dan Richardson earned the win as Rising Sun downed North East 9-4 Friday. Photos and complete story will be printed in the May 6 edition of The Herald. |
