There's depth in the Perryville baseball program.
The Panthers have 11 seniors on the varsity roster and a nucleus of promising players on the JV. Four pitchers with varsity experience will anchor the staff –Kody Brown, Zach Strong, Jared Brustman, and Clayton Bines. Many of the names have changed, but the Rising Sun baseball team's expectations and approach remain the same.
"Our expectations are to go out and compete and give it our best shot to win," coach Clyde Van Dyke said. The Perryville girls lacrosse team is looking to take the next step and has a team capable of doing just that.
The Panthers finished 10-2 last year, but were the Susquehanna Division runner-up for the second straight season and lost to Queen Anne's in the region title game again. The Rising Sun girls lacrosse is adding a group of promising freshmen to a solid nucleus of experienced players.
Kelsey Perkins returns in goal. "She looks wonderful in practice and did an excellent job in our scrimmage games," second-year coach Becca Guethler said. The Panthers are persevering.
Perryville's boys lacrosse team has been hit hard by injuries but are trying to see a silver lining. "The good thing is it has allowed us to take a look at some other kids," coach Chris Soper said. "We've developed a plan to see who will contribute this year and in the future." Rising Sun boys lacrosse coach Chris King says his squad is ready to reap the rewards of its hard work.
"We have a senior-laden team," King said. "The expectations are higher than last year. They have been working for it. They are not expecting anyone to give anything to them. They are putting in the work to make it happen." Perryville tennis coach Gina Pucci is "elated" about her team's prospects, both this season and in the future.
On the boys side, Steven Lynch, Trevor Fell, Kyle Makach are vying for singles spots. Success has it rewards.
Sometimes those rewards present additional challenges. That's the case for the Rising Sun tennis team. The veteran-laden Perryville softball team has high hopes.
After finishing 10-7 last year with a second round playoff loss to Colonel Richardson, the Panthers expect to go farther this spring. The Rising Sun softball team is seeking to improve from last season's 8-9 record.
Coach Rusty Moore is expecting better results in his second season at the helm. |
