North East's girls basketball team held Perryville scoreless over the final four-plus minutes and made four free throws in the last 71 seconds to defeat the Panthers 27-25 Thursday night.
Teri Wennersten scored all six of Perryville fourth quarter points and her two free throws with 4:12 left put the Panthers ahead 25-23. The Rising Sun boys basketball team once again proved they can play with just about anybody on their home court.
The Tigers built an eight-point lead with four minutes left and hung on for a 61-60 triumph over Harford Tech Wednesday night. "I think it was just pure desire," Rising Sun coach Don Passenant said. "You know, I always tell them you've got to all for four quarters." The Perryville wrestling team topped Joppatowne and lost to C. Milton Wright last Wednesday.
The Panthers topped the shorthanded Mariners 54-12. Joppatowne had just four wrestlers. Perryville won two of the four bouts. Zac Zacerous (152) and Aengus Vervier (220) each posted a pin. Rivals on the basketball court, the Perryville and North East girls basketball teams will be joining forces on Thursday.
Perryville is hosting the fifth annual "Play for a Cure" game. The Rising Sun girls basketball team celebrated Senior Night in style Monday with a 59-33 rout over Joppatowne.
Prior to the game the Tigers paid tribute to their five seniors – Brooke Bower, Courtney Spangler, Caitlin Shober, Alexa Webber, and Aly Jackson. It seems impossible.
Yet it happened. Incredibly, the Rising Sun wrestling team won both matches of a double-dual meet by the exact same razor-thin margin. The Perryville girls basketball team's offensive woes continued Friday night in a 34-16 loss to visiting Harford Tech.
The Panthers trailed just 9-6 at the end of the first quarter and 19-12 at halftime but only mustered four points in the second half. The Rising Sun girls basketball team breezed to a 51-20 triumph over an undermanned Elkton squad Thursday night.
The Tigers started strong, outscoring the hosts 22-3 in the first quarter. Lexi Osborne had nine of her team-high 13 points and Abby Mack blocked five shots. The Perryville boys basketball team was determined to avenge an earlier loss to Rising Sun.
To say they succeeded is a colossal understatement. |
