Walter G. Ulmer, Jr., age 90, formerly of Philadelphia, Holmes, and New Providence, PA died on September 17, 2016 at Hospice and Community Care, Mt. Joy PA, and is now sleeping in death, awaiting his resurrection. He was the husband of the late Betty Reed Ulmer who died January 23, 2009. Walter was born on August 13, 1926 in Philadelphia, a son of the late Walter G. and Henrietta Thompson Ulmer. He was a former member of Collingdale Church of the Nazarene and a current member of Wesley Church, Quarryville. Walter did not complete his high school degree, but instead joined the US Navy where he proudly served during WWII as an Aviation Electricians Mate. Following his honorable discharge, he completed his GED. Using the skills learned in the Navy, Walter them made a career with Bell Telephone Company where he worked as an installer until his retirement. During that time he was also involved in the Civil Air Patrol as a youth “Teen” leader. Surviving him is a daughter, Betty Jane (Larry) Krawczak of NC; a brother Leroy (Liz) Ulmer of NJ; 8 nieces and nephews, Keith Ulmer, Sue Hillman, Steven Hillman, Stacey Estes, Scott Hillman, Rusty Ulmer, Lynne Smart, and Buddy Ulmer.
He was preceded in death by 2 siblings, Carl Ulmer and Rita Hillman. Walter will be sorely missed by friends and family and will always be remembered. Never missing an opportunity to express his love of his Lord and to witness to anyone around him, Walter asked that everyone consider Jesus. “If we meet and you forget me, you have lost nothing; but if you meet Jesus Christ and forget Him, you have lost everything.” Funeral services will be held at Reynolds Funeral & cremation Services, Inc., 144 East State Street, Quarryville, PA on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 11:00AM with Barbara McCardell officiating.
