Thurston A. “Wink” Hassler Sr., of Quarryville PA, went to be with his Lord, January 21, 2018, 2 days before his 97th birthday. He was the widower of the late Jane Groff Hassler who passed away in 2016. Wink was born in Quarryville, a son of the late George W. and Elsie K. Fritz Hassler. He had proudly served in the US Navy during WWII in both the European and Pacific theaters from 1942-1945. Following his service to his country, he came home and joined the family business, Ferguson & Hasslers, Inc, where he had served as president, retiring in 2000 at the age of 81. Wink was a faithful member of St Paul’s Church, Quarryville. He was also a member of American Legion Post 603, Quarryville, and the Slumbering Groundhog Lodge. He is survived by 5 children, Thurston A. “Winkie” Hassler, Jr, (Kay), Pinellas Park, FL, Barbara “Beejee” Herr (Kenneth), Strasburg, James C. Hassler (Linda), Holtwood, Marianne Harnish (Dennis), Quarryville, Timothy K. Hassler (Sherie), Quarryville, 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and a sister Janet Hassler, Willow Street.
He was predeceased by 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at St. Paul's Church, 1 West Fourth Street, Quarryville on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at 10:00 AM. with Pastor Ken Hash, and Pastor Thurston A. Hassler, Jr. officiating. The family will greet friends following the memorial service. Private burial in Quarryville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Paul’s Church, or the Quarryville Library.
