Roger J. Wimer born October 29, 1921 in Eden Township. Son of the late Harry L Wimer and Margaret V. Steinman Wimer. Early in life he worked as a farmhand and in a silk mill. He went to work for the Pennsylvania Railroad May 1941; he was drafted into the United States Army June 1942. He was a lifelong member of Mt Eden Evangelical Lutheran Church, Quarryville where he was baptized in 1922. He married his sweetheart the late Olive Rose December 1942. He was sent overseas January 1943 to the European Theater of war as a military police later transferred to Ciro into the 575 Army Air force. He was discharged from the 575 air transport service in November 1945. He bought a small farm while continuing to work for the Penn Central Railroad. He retired from Conrail in 1982. After retirement he worked as an escort driver for High Steel for twelve years. Rogers's hobbies included bowling and traveling with Olive in their 5th wheel camper. Together they enjoyed square dancing with the Grand Squares and were members of the 106 Square Dance camping club of Mechanicsburg. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Olive Rose Wimer who died in 2001.
Roger is survived by his children; Pearl Marie Muckel wife of James Muckel, Willow Street Thomas R. Wimer husband of Corrine Wimer, Quarryville, Nellene K Myer wife of Jay Paul Myer, Roaring Branch, Jacqueline F Groff wife of Douglas J Groff, Strasburg, Glenn E Wimer husband of Donna Wimer, Strasburg, Clifford Wimer Quarryville. He had twelve grandchildren thirteen great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his two brothers Richard and Russell Wimer. Friends are invited to attend the funeral service from Reynolds Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 144 East State Street, Quarryville, PA on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 10:00 AM.
