Robert N. “Bob” Hastings, 81, entered into rest unexpectedly at his home in Quarryville on Tuesday, December 27, 2016. Born in Colerain Twp., he was the son of the late John E. and Elizabeth (Groff) Hastings. Bob and his wife, Diane (Becker) Hastings had celebrated 7 years of marriage in February. Bob was well known and respected in the community. He worked at the former Eastern States Store in Quarryville, then did service and delivery work for Leon C. Landis and went on to retire from Hasting Electric and Plumbing. Bob also served his community as a borough police officer and constable. He was a an active member of Union Presbyterian Church, President of the Quarryville Fire Co. from 1963-1965, a member of the Quarryville Borough Authority, Washington Lodge #156 F&AM, Slumbering Groundhog Lodge, the Eagles Nest Hunting Camp in Huntington Co. and the No Score Four Golf Team. When not working Bob enjoyed NASCAR and was a sponsor of the Hasting Racing Team. He also liked all sports and watching his family participate in them. Surviving besides his wife Diane is a son, Steven R. husband of Jan of Kirkwood and daughters; Linda M. wife of Michael Shoemaker and Donna J. wife of Larry G. Kreider, both of Quarryville. Also surviving is a step-son, David B. Gingher and wife Tasha of Loginville, 5 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchildren and brothers; Richard Hastings husband of Nancy and John E. Hastings, Jr. Bob was preceded in death by his former wife Betty J. and a son Robert N. Hastings, Jr.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the Union Presbyterian Church, 5637 Street Rd., Kirkwood, PA beginning with a masonic service by Washington Lodge # 156 F&AM at 11:00 am followed by a celebration of Bob’s life. Friends are invited to greet the family at the church on Saturday from 10:00 – 11:00 and also immediately following the service. A private traditional family interment is in the Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers; contributions may be made in Bob’s memory to the Quarryville Fire Department or to a local charity of one’s choice.
