Ralph Clair Kauffman, of Millersville, died as a result of a farm accident on Friday, May 3, 2013. He was 81. Mr. Kauffman was the husband of Shirley Ann Neiss Kauffman. They had celebrated 59 years of marriage on March 8 of this year. He was born in Holtwood, son of the late Roy S. and Reba Campbell Kauffman. Mr. Kauffman was a self employed truck drive. He was the owner of the popular attraction, Getz Steam Calliope, which could be seen at many of the local fairs and parades. An antique tractor restorer, collector and enthusiast, he was a member of Friends of Massey Harris Tractor Club, Rough and Tumble Engineers Assoc., and Farm Grove Olde Tyme Days. He also enjoyed antique tractor pull competitions both as spectator and participant. He enjoyed attending auctions and country and gospel music. He served his county honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He attended Bethesda United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife he is survived by six children; Barbara Ann Kauffman, of Temple, Deborah Boerger, and husband, Larry, of Lancaster, Beverly Cunningham, of Columbia, Ralph C. "Butch" Jr., and wife Amelia, of Mr. Wolf, Roy Charles "Charlie", and companion, Shawnet Diehl, of Mr. Nebo, Raymond A., of Millersville; 14 grandchildren; two brothers, Russell Kauffman, of Willow Street and Carl Kauffman, of Lynson; and his dog, Kayla. Mr. Kauffman was preceded in death by four brothers, Edward, Luther, Roy and Jay Kauffman, and a sister, Helen Shenk. Services were held at the Bethesda United Methodist Church in Holtwood on Monday, May 13 at 2 p.m. Burial was in the church cemetery.
