Earl E. Eshleman, 87, of Quarryville, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Lois M. (Fisher) Eshleman, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. Born in Ephrata, he was the son of the late Roy E. and Ruth (Hufford) Eshleman. Earl was a graduate of Ephrata High School, class of 1954. Over the years he was employed at J.L. Clark, Kerr Glass, and most recently as a custodian for the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center. In his early years, Earl was a Ham radio operator, WA3DMH. He also enjoyed wood carving and planting flowers in his garden each year. He was a life-long member of Calvary Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Sally (David) Groff, of Lancaster, and Linda (Carl) Warfel, of New Providence, and a brother, David (Sandy) Eshleman, of Lititz. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Nancy L. “Nanz” Lefever, 84, formerly of Kirkwood, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024 at Masonic Village. Born in Oxford, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Kathryn (Farra) Anderson. Nancy was a graduate of Quarryville High School, class of 1957. Early in her career she worked as a secretary at Bart-Colerain Elementary School. She then transitioned to having a life-long career with the US Post Office, retiring as Postmaster with over 30 years of service. She especially enjoyed her post-retirement employment at Clipper Magazine Stadium and as a dresser for Sight and Sound Theatres. Nancy considered it a privilege to host more than 15 foreign students in her home over the years. She was a member of Farm Women Society #15, Robert Fulton Chapter #446 Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of Union Presbyterian Church. Nancy was happiest when she spent time with her children and her grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Memaw”. Ralph A. McDowell Jr., age 68 of Nottingham, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at home. He was the husband of Pamela Moore McDowell. He was born in West Grove, son of Ralph A. McDowell Sr. of Rising Sun, MD and the late Jeanette M. Cox McDowell. Ralph was instrumental in the starting of the Solanco Little League, where he coached and umpired. Edna (Kirk) Chase Yarnall, 100, formerly of Kirkwood, entered into rest on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Edna came into this world in Independence, VA. Born to Wright and Margaret (Wagonner) Kirk, she was youngest of 10 children. Her father, Wright was a farmer and itinerant Baptist circuit preacher. Edna spent her early childhood as a farm girl, but moved with her family to the West Chester area at the age of 5. She graduated from West Chester High School in 1942. After graduation, Edna was employed at Schramm’s, Inc., in West Chester as a welder. This was during WWII and she was teasingly called “Rosie the Riveter”. During this time, she met Lovell Thompson Chase. They married in 1944, shortly before Lovell was deployed to Europe to serve in the Army. While he was deployed, Edna worked at the National Foam Company in West Chester. Teresa L. Flerx, age 56 of Honey Brook, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at her home. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of Sally Griest Dowlin of Holtwood, wife of the late Richard Dowlin. She graduated from Twin Valley High School, class of 1985. he was the wife of the late LeRoy H. Bair, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2015. Born and raised in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Samuel H. and Susan E. (Kuhns) Ebersole. She was a member of Blue Rock Mennonite Church. Kenneth J. Lingo, 73, of Oxford, PA passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at his home. He was the husband of Eileen Lingo with whom he shared 43 years of marriage. Born in Delaware County, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Margaret Lingo. He was a long-time resident of West Chester, PA. He retired from PECO after 40 years of service. Kenneth was a huge fan of NASCAR, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Philadelphia Eagles. He also enjoyed traveling, golfing and fishing. Mary Kay Peters, 81, of Quarryville, formerly of Wilmington, DE, was welcomed home by her heavenly Father on Friday, February 9, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Bruce G. Peters, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage. Born in Grove City, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Howard Reed Smith and Mary Katherine (Dickey) Smith. Mary Kay was a graduate of Ridgeway High School in Ridgeway, PA, class of 1960. Following high school, she attended Indiana State College for one year, then transferred to the University of Delaware, earning a bachelor’s degree in home economics education in 1964. She was employed as a home economics teacher prior to having children; she then dedicated her life to caring for her family and home. Mary Kay was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She served and faithfully supported her family and others through countless acts of service. When not serving her family and friends, she could be found enjoying the sand and sun of Sea Isle City, New Jersey, playing card games, sewing and crafting, rollerblading, scrapbooking, and square dancing with her beloved husband, Bruce. Keith E. Cushman, 74, of Strasburg, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. Born in Caribou, ME, he was the son of the late Dana and Mary Ruth (Hill) Cushman. He was the loving husband of Judy M. (Dunnett) Cushman for 52 years. Keith grew up on a potato farm in Maine and was a 1970 graduate of New Brunswick Bible Institute. He was an ordained minister having served as pastor of Easton United Baptist Church, Easton, ME; Woodland First Baptist Church, Colby Siding, ME; Dyer Brook Community Church, Dyer Brook, ME; Bristol United Baptist Church, Bristol, NB; So. Portage Baptist Church, Nashwaak Bridge, NB; Winterport Baptist Church, Winterport, ME; Maranatha Riverside Church, Lincoln, ME; and St. Stephens Presbyterian Church, Sunny Corner, NB. Ronald L. Althouse, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. He was the husband of Evora B. Cramer Althouse. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Isaac N. and Genella (Nellie) E. McGuigan Althouse, and graduated from Manheim Township High School. Ronald started his career as an apprentice at Graphic Crafts and then became employed by RR Donnelley and Sons, where he remained until his retirement. Ronald was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Lancaster (where he met his wife). He was an usher, helped with the food bank for many years, and served as a trustee, as well as serving on many other committees. Printing was his passion. He had his own print shop in each home where he resided until his stroke in 2021, and did small jobs for the community. He also, along with his wife, Evora, sold wedding invitations to many local couples. He volunteered for the Heritage Press in Lancaster and was a member of the 918 Printing Club. |
