Matthew David Cargill, 37, of Upper Chichester, PA, passed away of natural causes on Friday, April 14, 2017. He was a beloved son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and treasured friend. Matt is survived by his mother, Paula Shrom Cargill of Quarryville, his father David and step-mother, Nancy Cargill of Tinley Park, IL; a sister, Sara Herr, and husband, Larry, nieces, Allison and Hope Herr, Quarryville; his uncle Timothy J. Shrom, wife Debbie, and daughter Tiffany also of Quarryville along with cousins; Adam and Andy Cargill of Harrisburg. Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Pauline (Polly) Shrom formerly of Ridley Park and Ronks, Pa. and Richard and Adelaide Cargill of Harrisburg, Pa. After graduating from Strath Haven High School in 1998, Matt served in the U. S. Navy submarine service for 6 years as an MT2 Missile Technician. He was assigned to the USS Maine (SSBN 741) out of Bangor, WA., serving three tours on the Submarine. Following an honorable discharge from the Navy, Matt also served in the U. S. Army, 1st Cavalry Division for 3 years. SGT Cargill served 2 tours in Iraq.
Over the past 5 years, Matthew was employed by Flowserve Corporation in Upper Chichester as Assembly Lead/Safety Manager. Services celebrating Matt’s Life will be on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 11:00 PM from Dewald Funeral & Cremation Services, 227 W. 4th St., Quarryville. Interment and military honors will follow in the Quarryville Cemetery. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 – 11:00 AM.
