John Huber Hess, Jr., a faithful servant of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, went to his new Home in Heaven on Friday, February 26, 2016. He recently had celebrated his 93rd birthday with his family. He and his wife Miriam Shuffelbottom Hess celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary September 1, 2015. John was born in Marticville, a son of the late John Huber and Elizabeth Pries Hess, Sr. He also lived in Lime Valley, Smithville, and most recently in Mt. Joy with his daughter and her family. He was a charter member of Lampeter United Methodist Church where he also taught Sunday school for 38 years. John worker for and retired from Lancaster Malleable Castings Company as a molder for 40 years. A US Army veteran, he proudly served his country during World War II as a military policeman in Okinawa. He enjoyed going on walks, gardening, small game hunting, fishing, bird watching, and watching gospel tapes. Surviving him are his wife Miriam and 5 children, Karen Jean wife of Glenn P. McGaw of Conestoga, Gary John husband of Susan Reese Hess of Ronks, Rodney Alan husband of Becky Dearoff Hess of Willow Street, Joyce E. wife of John G. Bice of Mount Joy, Joan Elizabeth wife of Marc C. Chappelle of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a brother Howard; and a sister Mary. He was preceded in death by a brother David and a sister Beulah.
We would like to thank the nursing staff at Susquehanna Valley Nursing Home and home care nurse Donna for the wonderful care they extended to John during his short time there. Funeral services will be held at Lampeter United Methodist Church, 1101 Village Roads, Lancaster, PA on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 11:00AM with Rev. Blaine Wenger officiating. Interment will follow in Marticville United Methodist Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church from 10:00AM until the time of service. Kindly omit flowers.
