Jesse Wood of Little Britain died April 13, 2014. He was 80. Jesse was the son of the late James R. and Lois (Crowl) Wood and lived his entire life on the family farm in Little Britain Township. He loved farming with his father and in his later years with his sons on their dairy and crop operations. After graduating from Solanco High School he worked on his father’s farm and met his high school sweetheart, Ruth Ann Groff, and they got married on November 8, 1952. Mr. Wood worshiped regularly with his wife, Ruth Ann, at Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren. He was a birthright member of the Society of Friends at Eastland Meeting and served as a Trustee and Treasurer of Eastland Cemetery Association for many years.
He was a member of the Wakefield Lions Club, the Fulton Grange, the Solanco Historical Society, and Lancaster County Farm Bureau. He was a Bank Director Emeritus at NBRS Financial and previously Chairman of the Board in Rising Sun, Md. In addition, he served 30 years with the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority. Mr. Woodwas a PA State ASCS Chair 1981-1989. He was active in Solanco and Little Britain Republican activities. He served Little Britain Township in many positions including Supervisor, Sewage Enforcement Officer and Auditor. In addition to his wife Ruth Ann he is survived by children Cindy Lou wife of Douglas Tanner of New Providence; Edna Sue wife of Robert Rose of Lititz; Jesse James husband of Patricia (Townley) Wood; Linda Jo wife of Ronald Bolt; Jeffrey Owen husband of Tammy (Dickel) Wood and Thanh T. Tran, husband of Lisa (Charles) Tran, all of Little Britain Township, Nottingham, Pa. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; a brother, J. Robert Wood husband of Anita (Grice) Wood of Laurel, Mississippi; and a sister Susan Elaine Craig of Xenia, Ohio, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his foster son, Dat T. Tran. Public viewings will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 from 4-6 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. at Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren, 1392 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville. A service celebrating his life will be held at the church on Saturday, April 19 at 11 a.m. Friends will have the opportunity to greet the family immediately following that service. A private traditional interment will be in the Eastland Friends Cemetery.
