James V. Hash, Jr., 89, of Peach Bottom, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at Country Meadows Retirement Communities, Lancaster. He was born in Marion, VA, to the late James V., Sr., and Ruth (Gore) Hash, and he was the husband of the late Dora “Jane” (Surber) Hash, with whom he shared almost 35 years of marriage before her passing in 1985. Jay, as everyone knew him, was the oldest of 5 siblings: Avery Hash, husband of Emma, Evelyn Handle, Janet Martin, and Joyce Martin, wife of Harry. Jay was a dairy farmer for over 50 years. He loved his family and was an avid western book reader. He enjoyed watching wrestling with his grandsons and watching western movies with anyone who would join him. Jay is survived by three daughters: Vicki Groff, wife of Herb Groff, Brenda Zink, wife of Bob Zink, and Margi Herr, wife of Scott Herr. Grandchildren include: Candie McFadden, wife of Rick, Stephanie Kellenberger, wife of Les, Bob Hurley, husband of Chrissy, Jason Hash, husband of Khristey, and Kelly Hamon, wife of Corey; 10 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and scores of people who called him Pop.
The family would like to thank the staff of Country Meadows and Grane Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Jay over the last days of his life. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, from 10 – 11 a.m., at Dewald Funeral & Cremation Services, 227 West 4th Street, Quarryville, PA 17566. A Funeral Service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Blake Deibler officiating. Interment will be at Mount Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Fairfield. Anyone knowing Jay knew he hated to dress up! When you saw Jay, he was dressed in either a western shirt or tee shirt, jeans, and cowboy boots. His only request many moons ago when his wife died in regard to his own service was, “Don’t bury me in a suit.” In honor of this request his viewing and service will be casual dress (wear your jeans if you have them). Services entrusted to Dewald Funeral & Cremation services, Quarryville. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.dewalds.com. Comments are closed.
