Just as the snow began to gently fall in New Holland, Pa. on January 12, 2019, J. Harold Bomberger, 87, left this world to be with his family and friends in Heaven. A resident of Garden Spot Village Skilled Nursing, Fallcrest Household, the family is grateful to the kind and caring staff there along with Lancaster Hospice & Community Care who helped us through this journey. Born in Rexmont, PA, he was the son of the late Isaac G. and Sallie [Breidenstine] Bomberger. Harold was a graduate of West Lampeter High School, class of 1949. After high school he spent several years on the family farm, later working as a DHIA milk tester. He spent 22 years at Case New Holland in production control, from where he retired in 1986. He married the late Shirley [Nolt] Bomberger on Valentine’s Day, 1954. They shared 63 years of marriage. Harold and Shirley enjoyed vacationing together. They vacationed many times to New England, the Smoky Mountains, Myrtle Beach, and Williamsburg. Together they cared for a lovely flower and vegetable garden at their Lancaster home. Harold especially enjoyed tending his rose garden. They greatly enjoyed hosting cook outs and holiday meals for their family. Harold and Shirley spent many hours sharing life with their grandchildren. They were always glad to help their son and his family in any way they could.
Throughout the years they were members of First Assembly of God in Lancaster and New Life Assembly of God. They later attended Grace Baptist Church and then New Providence Church of God. After retirement they spent many happy weekends at the family cabin. In the last 10 years they resided with their son and family in the Quarryville area. Harold worked hard, enjoyed simple things and faithfully cared for Shirley through her battle with ALS. Harold is survived by his only child, John H. Bomberger, Jr. married to Jean [DeLong] Bomberger of Quarryville. His grandchildren, Leah, wife of Joshua Edwards, Den Haag, Netherlands and Eric J. Bomberger of Quarryville. Along with his great granddaughter, Nadija Edwards. He is also survived by his brothers Claude M. and Galen P. Bomberger. Preceded in death by two brothers Carl E. and Bruce A. Bomberger. In accordance with Harold’s wishes there will be no service and internment will be private. Anyone wishing to make a contributions in Harold’s memory may do so with the Benevolent Fund at Garden Spot Village or Lancaster Hospice & Community Care.
