Harvey C. Aspril just wasn’t up to par at 97 years old. So, on July 19, 2018, he decided to play through, to the 19th hole. Surrounded by family, he quietly left Quarryville, to travel to the eternal golf course in the sky. Harvey was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Betty R. Aspril. He was the son of the late Norman R. and Hannah Price Aspril. One of 14 children and the last of the immediate family, Harvey was born and raised in the historic Barr’s Ark, Quarryville. A US Army veteran, he was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. He loved to tell his grandchildren about the time he played baseball with Satchel Paige when he was in the Army. Harvey worked for many years as a civilian at the Bainbridge Naval Base. Later, he worked at the Host Farm Resort. He was an avid and accomplished golfer who enjoyed playing the game well into his 80’s. He never missed a Miss America Pageant on TV, and could always tell you who won. When he wasn’t golfing, you would find him watching “Wheel” and “Jeopardy”. Harvey is survived by 2 sons Roger Aspril of New Providence, J. Scott Aspril, husband of Judy, of Quarryville; and a daughter Barbara A. Ray, wife of Randall of Holtwood; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Services will be private.
