Glenn W. "Bill" McKelvey, Jr., of Pequea, formerly of Drumore, died on Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Lancaster General Hospital. He was 88. Mr. McKelvey was born in Modena, the only child of the late Glenn W. Sr., and Mary E. Gary McKelvey. He was the husband of the late Arlene L. Huber McKelvey, for 65 years. Mr. McKelvey started his employment as an electrical worker with B.G. & E. in Maryland, and then transferred to the Holtwood Power Plant in 1956. He retired from PPL in 1986 following 38 years of service. Following retirement he worked as a driver at Q.P.R.C. for over 12 years. He was also the family handyman, and particularly enjoyed repairing electronics. He enjoyed the family pets over the years, and will be missed by his cat Emma and puppy Abigail.
He served his country proudly in the US Navy during WWII on ships in both the European and Pacific theaters. For over 50 years, he was a loyal member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church. Mr. McKelvey is survived by two daughters, Deborah and husband Richard Nelson, of Falls Church, Virginia and Claudia and husband Glen Sellers, of Pequea; three grandchildren; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren and one step great-grandchild. In additon to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a son, Wayne McKelvey. Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Service to be held January 8, 2014 at Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church, 673 Martic Heights Drive, Pequea at 11 a.m. The family will visit with friends at the church following the service with a time for fellowship and refreshments.
