After graduating from Lafayette College, he served in the U.S. Army, and after returning home to take his place as a partner in the family business, continued to serve in the U.S. Army National Reserves. A devoted family man, he is survived by his wife, Patsy Zander Hassler. His daughter, Patti Jo Hassler, and sons, George W. Hassler III (Chip) and wife LuAnn, and Hampton Scott Hassler (Scott) and wife Susanne, and six grandchildren; Melissa Groff Reynolds, Elsworth L. Groff III (Kirk), Daniel Henry, Kimberly Hassler, Mia and Sara Hassler, and four great grandchildren; Cole and Lakelan Reynolds, and Brynn and Jaxon Henry all adored him. Family, country and community. George W. Hassler II may not have talked about it but he quietly served the community he loved, and tried to make a difference in every life he touched. He was honored to serve on the board of the Fulton Bank, and honored to serve in a variety of positions at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. He is remembered there as a fine Sunday school teacher as well as for his service as a church elder. His faith never wavered despite the tragic loss of his first wife, Jean Shoemaker Hassler; his second wife, Jill Keiser Hassler; and his eldest daughter, Pamela Hassler Groff.
His lifelong enjoyment of golf, from competitive collegiate player to a committed duffer in his retirement, never waned. He passed on his expertise and his joy of sport to all.
