George A. Grumelli, age 94, of Bart, PA, passed away at his home on Sunday, September 20, 2015. He was the husband of the late Evelyn V. Welk Grumelli, who passed away on January 20, 2011. The Grumelli’s were married for 69 years. He was born in Bart, PA, son of the late Antonio D. & Giovinio Scortico Grumelli. He was a member of the Georgetown United Methodist Church. He attended Stevens Trade School of Lancaster. George was self employed in the plumbing, heating and electrical business and along with his late wife they owned and operated Grumelli Appliance & Hardware Store in Christiana, PA. George was a veteran of W.W. II in the 11th Infantry. On November 21, 1944 he departed for Germany and on December 24, 1944 he was wounded in action in Luxembourg. He was awarded the Purple Heart, American Theater Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge, W.W. II Victory Medal, EAMETO Ribbon and two Battle Stars on EAMETO Ribbon. In the past he was a member of the Strasburg Senior Citizens and VFW. He enjoyed watching the Phillies and spending time with his family. Surviving are 6 children: George A. Grumelli, Jr. at home, Fred V. Grumelli of Bart, Susan L. McVey of Paradise, Rose M. wife of Stanley L. Hoffman of Bart, Kenneth W. husband of Betty Sheetz Grumelli of Quarryville, Lisa A. wife of David S. Ross of Strasburg, 5 grandchildren: Troy, Giovana, Gabrielle Grumelli, Shawn Hoffman and Heather Murray, 10 great grandchildren, 3 siblings: Anthony D. “Tony” Grumelli of Christiana, Lucy E. wife of Melvin P. Trago of Kinzers, Margie E. Reinhart of Bart.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Angie McVey Eversole, son in law, Robert McVey, 2 siblings: Victor Grumelli and Margaret Josephine Young. Funeral service will take place from the Georgetown United Methodist Church, 1070 Georgetown Road, Bart, PA on Thursday, September 24th at 11 a.m. with Rev. Elaine Bortman officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
