Evelyn A. Wimer of Quarryville died at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community on Friday, September 20, 2013. She was 95. Mrs. Wimer was born in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Freeman G. and Virgie E. Aukamp. She attended Hickory Grove School and worked at her father's produce farm. In later years, she worked as a seamstress at Tidykins Garment Factory, Quarryville. She also cleaned houses and worked as a babysitter for local families.
Mrs. Wimer was an active member of the New Providence Church of God, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was a member of the WCTU and the Willing Workers Sunday School class. She was also a member of the Quarryville Fire Company Auxiliary. Mrs. Wimer enjoyed baking, gardening, solving puzzles, and playing Scrabble. She is survived by her sons, Larry, husband of Kathy Stauffer of Palm City, Fla., and David R., husband of Nancy Wimer of Kirkwood; grandchildren Synthia Frizzel, Melissa Witte, Jeffrey Stauffer, Rebecca Wimer, Benjamin Wimer, and Daniel Wimer; two great-grandchildren; and her brother, Clifford G. Aukamp of New Providence. Her husband, Ralph M. Wimer, died in 1988. Three sisters and two step-brothers are also deceased. Friends may call at the New Providence Church of God, 269 Cinder Rd., from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 26. Services will be held from the church at 11 a.m. on that date with Pastor Dwight Lefever officiating. Burial will be in the Quarryville Cemetery.
