Dorothy M. “Dot” Bowman, 95, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Monday, January 18, 2016 at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community where she had been residing since June, 2014. Dot, as she was lovingly known was born in Quarryville, a daughter of her late step-father, Howard Whirt and her mother Suie (Ross) Whirt. Her husband, Joseph H. Bowman, Jr. died in 2001. Dot graduated from Quarryville High School in 1939. She first went to work for the former E.T. Frame Lock Co. and moved on to C.B. Tools in Lancaster. During WWII she worked for the former Hamilton Watch Company. Dot married Joseph Bowman, Jr. and from 1958 to 1970 they owned and operated the former Bowmans IGA and Bowmans Steak Shop in Quarryville. Dot attended New Providence Church of God, she enjoyed gardening, crocheting and playing pinochle. Surviving are brother-in-law’s, Ronald L. Bowman, husband of Betty and Glenn D. Bowman along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be on Monday, January 25, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. from Dewald Funeral & Cremation services, Inc. 227 W. 4th St., Quarryville, PA. with Pastor Dwight Lefever officiating. Interment will follow in the Quarryville Cemetery. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Please omit flowers, contributions may be made to the Kinsman Fund, c/o QPRC, 625 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA 17566.
