Mabel I. Pickel, 91, died at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community Tuesday, March 193/20/2024
Mabel I. Pickel, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community where she was a resident. Born in Millersville, she was the daughter of the late Laren and Suzy Hess Pickel. Mabel was a member of Byerland Mennonite Church. She enjoyed flowers, time with her friends and she loved to serve. In the past, she went to Arkansas to assist her cousin in a clinic, worked at Dagen's Grocery in Willow Street, Belmont Limestone, Martin's Meats, Brethren Village, and last worked at John M. Herr's Market in Millersville. Rodney L. Jennings, 70, of Nottingham passed away Friday, March 15, 2024 at Chester County Hospital, West Chester. Born in Wilmington, DE he was the son of the late Marvin James Jennings and the late Edith Mae Powers Wilson. Rodney was a retired truck driver. Soon after retiring Rodney started a lawn care service. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Street, MD. Rodney enjoyed old cars, hot rods and motorcycles. Frankie Jahwanza Thomas, 25, of Quarrville, died unexpectedly on March 14, 2024, from injuries sustained in an accident, while he was driving milk truck. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Leeton J., and Donna (Absher) Thomas. Frankie was a 2017 graduate of Solanco High School and earned a degree from Penn Tech in auto repair and restoration. He was employed by Milky Haven Farms as a truck driver for the past three years. He was known for his strong work ethic and determination. Frankie was the kind of person that would light up the room as soon as he walked in. Ronald E. “Ron” Druck, 73, formerly of Strasburg, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Mahlon H. and Edna M. (Sheaffer) Druck. Ron attended Lampeter-Strasburg High School. A career carpenter, he first worked in his father’s business until 1982, then went on to work for Paul Risk Construction, retiring with 30 years of service. Having an interest in automobiles, Ron always owned a Ford and he enjoyed attending races at drag strips. He was also an outdoorsman, hunting and fishing each year, and he enjoyed riding dirt bikes and snowmobiles. David F. Stoltzfus Jr., 2 month old infant son of David F. & Sadie Mae Stoltzfus Stoltzfus of 4261 Newark Road, Oxford, PA, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.
Catherine M. Shoop, 85, of Oxford, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2024 at home.
She was the wife of the late Clyde E. Shoop, Sr. with whom she shared 64 years of marriage. Born in West Grove, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Tessa Makovski Podmenick. She was a member of Oxford United Methodist Church. Catherine was a seamstress and she enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She was a good cook and enjoyed her flower beds and bird watching. Dorothy L. “Toots” Fenninger, 85 of Lancaster and formerly of Strasburg passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Lloyd R. Fenninger. Who died October 24, 2019. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Elvin W. and Helen Yuninger Weaver. Toots was a self- employed hairdresser. She was a member of the Strasburg Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and served 11 years as a volunteer with the former Strasburg Ambulance Association. She enjoyed going for walks, flower gardening, going to the beach house, but mostly she enjoyed her family, especially playing games with her grandkids. Albert Danz Jr., age 78, of Holtwood passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024. Albert was born in Lancaster, son of the late Albert Sr and Lillian McComsey Danz. Albert was married to the late Jean Marie Weaver Danz for 19 years before her passing in 2012. Albert worked for Howard E. Groff Company as a truck driver. He loved his Pittsburgh Steelers and the sport of football as a whole. He also enjoyed riding horses when he was younger and watching horse races. Jim Dydo born in Wernersville, PA in 1943 to Ruth Evans Dydo and Alexander Dydo died Thursday, February 22, 2024. He grew up in Coatesville, PA where he graduated from Scott High School in 1963. Jim married his high school sweetheart (married almost 60 years), Alice Whitman, and they had a son Christopher. Jim and his family spent 20 years living in Downingtown, PA as Jim acquired various vocational skills ranging from machinist, union shop steward, to polymer lab technician at ICI/Asahi in Thorndale, PA. Jim and Alice built their dream house and moved to beautiful Nine Points, Lancaster County, PA in 1987. Jim enjoyed many friendships in the southern Lancaster County area and was a member of the Eastern Lancaster County Rod & Gun Club, The Ancient Order of Croaking Frogs, Freemasons, and St. Anthony’s Lodge. Although Jim loved the outdoors (hunting, fishing, recreational target shooting, yard work), his favorite activity was being a grandfather. He loved spending time with (and bragging about) his two grandchildren, Callie Dydo (Boston, MA) and Trevor Dydo (State College, PA), and being their “Pap”. Ruth Ann Ankney, 81 of Cochranville went to be with the Lord on March 4 2024.
She was born in Peach Bottom, PA a daughter of the late Daniel H. and Henrietta Johnson Herr. A graduate of Solanco High School, she worked for the Avon Grove School District for 32 years in the cafeteria. As the 12th child of 13, family was very important to her. She was a member of Manor Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the ladies’ Circle and served as a deaconess and Sunday School teacher. An avid Phillies fan, Ruth Ann enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles, bowling, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and comic strips. |
