Barbara Jane Knoble, 93, of Quarryville, formerly of Japan and Delaware County, was warmly welcomed into Heaven on Saturday, May 23, 2020. She was the loving wife of the late John Hugo Knoble, with whom she shared 45 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2009. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Horace and Jean Lang (Osbourne) Dean. Barbara was a graduate of Haverford High School, class of January, 1945. After high school, she attended Wheaton College, studying anthropology and Christian Education, earning both a bachelor’s and master’s degrees respectively. For a short time after college, Barbara served on the Navajo Indian reservation. She then travelled to Japan in November of 1950 to serve with The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM). While serving in Japan she met John. They married and raised a family, and planted churches in Japan. They retired from the mission field in 1991. Barbara served in Japan for 41 years. For the last 24 years, she lived at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. She was involved in teaching Bible Studies, keeping up with friends and family through the computer and watching Hallmark movies. She mastered Zoom meetings in the last three months of her life. She enjoyed welcoming new and prospective residents at the community and loved everything about QPRC.
She is survived by a son, Stephen (Marcy) Knoble, of Gettysburg, SD; a daughter, Priscilla Knoble, of Seattle, WA; and two grandchildren: Abigail and Miriam Knoble. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Dean, and a sister, Marybeth Dean. Due to the COVID-19 heath directives, a memorial service for Barbara will be announced at a later date. Interment will be private in Quarryville Cemetery.
