Fred S. Oatman of Good Rd., New Providence, died at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community on Saturday, July 27, 2013. He was 65. Mr. Oatman was born in Lancaster, a son of the late Clair J. Sr. and Elizabeth R. Shaubach Oatman. He was a 1966 graduate of Solanco High School and served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Oatman worked as a custodian at the Solanco School District for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and the Lancaster County Sportsman's Association.
Mr. Oatman enjoyed listening to country music, telling jokes, and taking rides in the country. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joyce Good Oatman; three sons, Fred S. Jr., husband of Patricia A. Oatman of Holtwood, Martin C. Oatman, partner of Joseph Kosiarski of Tampa, Fla., and Christian H., husband of Margaret A. Oatman of Quarryville; a grandson, James R. Oatman; and his sister, Anna, wife of Harold A. Ross of Quarryville. A brother, Clair J. Oatman, and a sister, Vivian Trout, are deceased. Private graveside services with military honors were held in Bylerland Mennonite Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, 625 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville PA 17566.
