Sylvia King Esh, age 80, of 420 Furnace Road, Quarryville, passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at her home.
She was the wife of Aaron K. Esh. Born in Gordonville, she was the daughter of the late John Z. and Sarah King Lapp. Sylvia was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. Christian K. King, age 72, of 6660 White Oak Road, Christiana, passed away at home on Wednesday, December 22, 2021.
He was the husband of Rebecca B. Stoltzfus King. Born in Leola, he was the son of the late Daniel M. and Mima Zook King. Christian was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 7 children: Anna K. King of Christiana, Daniel M. husband of Mary Beiler King, Mima Z. King, both of Lancaster, Joseph B. King of Gap, Lydia S. King of Christiana, Christian K. King Jr. of Gap, Aaron S. King of Christiana, 2 grandchildren, and 5 siblings: Mattie wife of Henry Fisher of Bird in Hand, Daniel King, Emma wife of Benuel Kauffman of Christiana, Sarah King and Aaron King, both of Leola. Thomas R. Hirst, Jr., age 85 of Christiana, PA, passed away at the Lancaster General Hospital on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. He was the husband of Dorothy R. "Dotty" Shee Hirst, with whom he celebrated 63 years of marriage on March 1st of this year. He was born in Christiana, son of the late Thomas R. & Miriam R. Watson Hirst. He was a member of the Christiana United Methodist Church, where he had served as a Trustee. He worked for the former Diversified Printing, then Quebecor Printing of Atglen. Scott S. Rohrer, 84, of Chestnut Level, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Alice M. (Biernacki) Rohrer, with whom he shard 47 years of marriage. Born in Eden Township, he was the son of the late James and Jane (Strickler) Rohrer. Scott was a graduate of Solanco High School, class of 1955. He went on to be employed by Sperry Rand (now CNH) as a welder, retiring with 40 years of service. Scott proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962. Outside of work, Scott was active in sports. He was an avid bowler in multiple leagues until the 1990s. Over the years he also played softball and enjoyed playing golf. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening. Each year Scott looked forward to spending time at his beach house with his family. Charles Robert McMullen, 92, of Lancaster, formerly of Oxford, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster. He was the husband of the late Eleanor Rose Walsh McMullen with whom he married on August 20, 1955 sharing 66 years of marriage. Born in Oxford, he was the son of the late Harry James and Nora Mae Keith McMullen. Charles was a member of the First Baptist Church, Oxford and the Oxford Athletic Assoc. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean War. He was employed with the US Postal Service. Charles was a boy scout troop leader, Troop 44 and received the Silver Beaver Award. Eleanor Rose McMullen, 86, of Lancaster, formerly of Oxford, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster. She was the wife of Charles Robert McMullen whom she married on August 20, 1955 sharing 66 years of marriage. Born in Washington, DC she was the daughter of the late John R. and Minnie Powell Walsh. Eleanor was a member of the First Baptist Church, Oxford. She was also a founding member of Oxford Home and School Assoc. and a girl scout troop leader. She is survived by her husband; three children, Lori Jayne McMullen of Russellville, Lt. Col. Michael Sean McMullen of Alexandria, VA and Timothy Brian McMullen of Lancaster; seven grandchildren, Matthew Ryan McMullen, Cody Brian McMullen, Ashley Nicole Russell, Dean Robert McMullen, Abigail Angelicque McMullen, Johanna Rose McMullen and Michaela Elsa McMullen; four great-grandchildren, Matthew Vincent McMullen, Ryan Michael McMullen, and Artoria Jane Russell. Jane Marie Quinn McCardell completed her end of life journey at Hospice in Mount Joy, December 19, 2021. God had dispatched His Angels to carry our Mother to the heights of His Glory. As a young girl she spent most of her days helping out at the Oxford diner. She was loved by all, they were a big part of her family. Later, she met the Love of her life, Charles “Bob” McCardell whom she married and spent 52 years with before his departure into Heaven on February 3, 2008. “Bob and Jane” built a life together in Southern Lancaster County. Jane was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother putting her family first and guarding her four children with an unstoppable love. She was one of the pioneer Wakefield Ambulance Volunteers in 1973, always ready to serve. Making sure her family was well cared for, she became a demonstrator for Dutchmaid Fashions Apparel. Inge E. Steslow, 94, of Peach Bottom, entered into rest on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at Well Homed Assisted Living in Elkton, Maryland. Born in Bochum, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Wilhelm P. and Theresa Maria (Fiala) Nottscheid. She was the wife of the late Michael J. Steslow, who passed away on February 28, 2002. Inge was of the Catholic faith. She was a homemaker and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed shopping and visiting the animals at the Humane League. Helen C. Holcombe of Oxford died at Jenner’s Pond Retirement Community on December 17, 2021 at the age of 95. Born on May 30, 1926 in Oxford, she was the daughter of the late Theodore Cochran and Essie Cochran. She was the wife of the late Dr. Guy T. Holcombe, Jr. of Oxford. She is survived by one son, Guy “Tip” Holcombe (Vicki) of North East; one daughter, Lynn Johnston (Dave) of Elkton; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Curtis Holcombe (Lee) of Rising Sun, and Chester Earhart (Ruth) of Quarryville; one grandson, Joshua Holcombe (Katie) of Rising Sun; and one great grandson, Mason Holcombe of Rising Sun. Roger G. Cline, 90, of Kirkwood, PA passed away at his residence on Saturday, December 18, 2021. He and his wife Janet Whiteside Cline would have celebrated 57 years of marriage this coming Christmas eve. Born in Harrisville, MD, on April 20, 1931, he was the son of the late Burnard W. and Ruth Garvin Cline, Sr. Roger was raised and worked on the family farm which he continued to do after his retirement. He also had been employed by Town and Country Hardware Store owned by Rodney Whiteside. He later worked as an HVAC service man for Alger Oil Co. from which he retired after 20 plus years of service. He was a member of West Nottingham Church until his move from that church to Union Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon and Elder and many other capacities. |
