Elsie M. Cochran Groseclose, 95, of Oxford, PA passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Jenners Pond, West Grove, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, G. Ferman Groseclose with whom she shared 57 years of marriage. Born in Oxford, PA on March 6, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Theodore Roosevelt Cochran and Essie Sumner Cochran. A graduate of Oxford Area High School, Elsie held multiple retail jobs and worked for Penn Fuel Gas as a secretary before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was also a life member of the Oxford Church of the Nazarene. The oldest of six sisters, Elsie always welcomed friends and family in her kitchen, as the Groseclose Household was the home of many baseball games, auto repair projects and family gatherings. Whether she was known as Mom, Aunt Elsie, Mrs. Groseclose or Mom-mom, everyone was taken care of when they visited. John Bernard “Barney” Smyth, 89, of Nottingham, PA passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Ware Presbyterian Village, Oxford. He was the husband of the late Jannida Henderson Smyth with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. Born in West Nottingham Twp., he was the son of the late James Francis and Ebba Johnson Smyth. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean War. John was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart, Oxford and Swayne-Campbell-Testa Post #5467 VFW, Kennett Square. He enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Eagles, gardening, making bird houses, feeding the birds and working. Eleanor H. Kreider, 85, formerly of Quarryville, went home to be with the Lord with her family by her side on Wednesday, December 4, 2019. Born in Mount Joy, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Nora (Ibach) Hostetter. She is survived by her loving husband of over 66 years, James G. Kreider. Eleanor was the co-chair of the flower committee for the Solanco Fair Assoc. for over 35 years. She was a charter member of Farm Women # 31 and an active member of Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren, where she served as a deaconess and taught Sunday School. Eleanor hosted a brethren disaster relief fundraiser for over 20 years and volunteered with Solanco Meals-on-Wheels. Sheila Sweyer Bachman, 92, wife of the late Dr William H Bachman, died peacefully in her sleep after a short illness in Drumore, Pennsylvania on November 6, 2019. Born in Hornell, NY, on February 24, 1927, she was the only daughter of Walter and Rosamund Sweyer. Walter was a store manager for the Kinney shoe company and the family moved frequently, living in a variety of towns throughout the Pennsylvania/NY region. This instilled a love of people and places in Sheila from an early age. A quick learner (her high school nickname was “Speedy” because she was usually the first to put a hand in the air to answer questions), she skipped a year of primary school and was always the youngest in her class, which never seemed to be a problem because of her adventurous spirit. Jeffrey D. Long, 60, of Strasburg PA, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 2, 2019. He was the husband of Barbara Brooks Long. They had celebrated 33 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster PA, Jeff was a son of Thomas F. and Ann Lorraine Graeff Long of Strasburg. Jeff worked for Select Security. He enjoyed collecting and restoring old motorcycles and bicycles, and antiquing. He was a member of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America. Mary E. Karabetsos, 85, formerly of Kirkwood, entered into rest on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at Conestoga View. Born in Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Carrie (Layton) Pittman. She was the loving wife of George G. Karabetsos for over 43 years. Mary enjoyed cooking, traveling, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time with her grandchildren. Mary is survived by a daughter, Tanya Jennings of Peach Bottom; 4 grandchildren, John McFalls (Steph), Gregory McMichael (Briana), Eric McMichael (Kasey), Aiden Jennings; 4 great grandchildren, J.J. McFalls, Logan, Lakelynn, and Ava McMichael; a brother, Melvin Pittman (Helen). Shirley May Speakman, 84, of Peach Bottom, entered into rest on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at home surrounded by her family. Born in Port Deposit, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Robert Franklin and Mamie Elizabeth (Cregger) Marlin. She was the loving wife of Norwood Speakman for over 45 years. Shirley enjoyed going to yard sales, playing cards with friends and spending with her large family. Joseph Frank Huddle, 78, of New Providence PA, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, December 1, 2019. He was the husband of Brenda Shelly Huddle. They had celebrated 42 years of marriage. Joe had honorably served in the US Navy. He enjoyed old cars, and gunsmithing. Born in Wilmington DE, he was a son of the late Arthur and Mary Primozich Huddle. Ruthann Souders, 70, of Drumore, PA. passed away on November 28, 2019 at Hospice and Community Care, Mt. Joy, PA. She was the wife of Frederick Souders. They had celebrated 36 years of marriage. Born in Coatesville,, she was a daughter of the late Harry E. and Lillian R. Whitely Prange. Ruthann had worked as a payroll clerk in the printing industry. She was a member of Strong Faith Family Church. She enjoyed singing, playing the violin, camping, and spending time with her grandchildren. Judy K. Gambill, 76, of Peach Bottom, PA, passed away unexpectedly at her home November 29, 2019. She was the wife of Richard Gambill. Born in Philadelphia, Judy was the daughter of the late Willard T. and Ethel I. Gilbert Phillips. She had managed the family business for 35 years. Judy enjoyed crafts, gardening, visiting with family and friends, and helping her neighbors. |
