Shirley (Rinier) Trimble, 83, entered into Heaven on Thursday, December 13, 2018, due to complications from a fall. She resided at Long Community. Shirley was the daughter of the late Ira and Myrtle Rinier. Shirley was known by “Grammy” to many. She loved little kids and animals and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Since her passing, we have heard from many about her kindness and impact she has had on many people who crossed her path. Her favorite song was “Old Time Rock and Roll” and her loved ones will always think of her when hearing that song. She was an avid Phillies fan, her favorite player was Bobby Abreu. Shirley attended Faith United Methodist Church and more recently attended church services at Long Community. She is survived by daughters; Dawn (Buddy) Ross and Cindy (Wally) Hockensmith. Grandchildren: Nathan, Mandy, Shannon, and Luke, along with their spouses, each professing to be her “favorite”. Also, six great grandchildren whom she adored. Shirley also has two surviving siblings, Sue and Jim. She will be missed by her best friend at the Long Community, Shirley Hambright. Anna Mae Kerr, 94, of the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, entered into rest on December 7, 2018.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late John and Helen (McKinnon) McVicker. She had been married to the late James E. Kerr, who died in 2011. Anna had worked as a mortgage processor. She was known as a hard worker and enjoyed reading and sewing. Joanne R. Herr, 84, of New Providence, entered into rest unexpectedly on Friday, December 14, 2018, at her home. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Rutt) Stoner. She was married to the late John R. Herr, who died in 2017. Joanne was the hardworking mother of six children. A large part of her life was spent helping her husband on the family farm in Providence Township. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed bird watching. She was especially fond of cardinals. Joanne was an active member of Mechanic Grove Mennonite Church, where she regularly participated in the sewing circle. She is survived by 6 children: David L., (Diane) of New Providence; John R., (Carol) of Quarryville; Gordon E., (Joyce) of Linden, WI; Steven M., (Nancy) of New Providence; Julie A., (Scott Hess) of Lancaster; and Timothy W., of New Providence; 12 grandchildren;14 great-grandchildren; a brother, John Stoner and a sister, Violet Mowrer. Joseph Patrick Gallagher, 63, of New Providence, entered into rest on Friday, December 14, 2018 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Colorado Springs, CO, he was the son of the late Joseph H. and Patricia (Ashby) Gallagher. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Dawn (Hertz) Gallagher. Joe was a 1972 graduate of McCaskey High School. He went on to serve in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Joe retired from Bulova in Lancaster after 33 years of employment. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved spending time hunting and fishing in Potter Co. and North Carolina. Joe was also a Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan. Dennis Lloyd Hill, age 61, of Cockeysville, MD, formerly of Rising Sun, MD, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2018 in the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center, Towson, MD, surrounded by his loved ones. He enjoyed reading and studying the Bible. He was an avid, self-taught guitarist. He enjoyed listening to country music when he wasn’t playing it, as well as fishing, spending time on his boat, and visiting museums. He was an expertly skilled carpenter by trade. Dennis was a veteran of the US Army and served as an Indirect Fire Infantryman. He was born in West Grove, PA and lived most of his life in Rising Sun, MD. He is preceded in death by both parents, James Hershel and Janet C. Hill (Horn). Mary E. Eager, 90, of New Providence, PA, passed away December 8, 2018.
She was the widow of the late Jay F. Groff who passed away in 1993, and the late Roy M. Eager who passed away in 2009. Mary was born at the Buck, a daughter of the late B. Frank and Elizabeth McCombs Grimsey. She had been employed by M & N Garment Factory, Georgetown, Oxford Manor Ware Presbyterian Home, and Q.P.R.C. She was a longtime attendee of New Providence Church of God. Mary is survived by 3 children, Jane Trout (Galen), New Providence, Carl R. Groff (Pat), Mt. Joy, Jay M. Groff (Becky), Lancaster, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, 2 step children, Joyce Kaplan, Lititz, R. Mark Eager, Quarryville, and 2 step grandchildren. David Lee Bare, 58 of Quarryville, PA, passed away on December 7, 2018. He was the husband of Darlene Glatfelter Bare, with whom he had shared 34 years of marriage. David had been employed for 28 years as a diesel mechanic for Susquehanna Truck Service. An avid boater, he enjoyed old cars and car shows, oldies music and dancing, and spending time with his family and friends. David was born in Havre de Grace, MD, a son of the late Willie Allen and Martha J. Gullion Bare. In addition to his wife Darlene, he is survived by 3 daughters, Jennifer R. Birli (Adam), Jane M. Whitsell, Julia N. Bare, 4 granddaughters, Taylor, Olivia, Grace, Autumn, and 2 siblings, Allen and Carol Bare. Edith E. Griest, 91, formerly of Little Britain, entered into rest on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Manor Care. Born in Little Britain, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mabel (Cregger) Browning. She was married to the late Clarence Leon Griest for 50 years at the time of his passing. Edith had worked for Exide Battery in Lampeter for many years. She was a member of Colerain Baptist Church. Edith was known for her work ethic. She loved animal and enjoyed cooking and flower gardening. John Galen Rineer, 95, of Lampeter and later at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community went to his heavenly home on December 5, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Quarryville on November 1, 1923, he was the son of the late Howard C. and Retta A. (Wimer) Rineer. John’s early life was in Quarryville, and then his family moved to Strasburg, where he and his 5 brothers and 3 sisters enjoyed life along the Pequea creek. John’s service to our country began at age 19 in the US Army. After training, in Virginia and Georgia, he volunteered for the US Army’s Third Airborne, where he became a co-pilot in the Gliders. As World War II continued, he then spent 15 months in New Guinea as a machine gunner with a squad under his guidance. Then in the Philippines, John became part of The Great Raid, a night-time surprise raid on Cabanatuan Prison Camp that freed over 500 servicemen from the Bataan Death March. He went on to Japan, where he witnessed the signing of the peace treaty and was discharged later in December 1945. After his service to our country, he began his career in 1947 with Landis Bros. progressing from service technician to salesman, and later joining the business as vice president. John went on to become the president/CEO of the firm of 50 employees before his retirement in 1988, for 42 years of service. John was married to Betty (Winters) for 69 loving years, having a family of 3 daughters -- Brenda, wife of Ted Fay of Lampeter, Cheryl Hershey of Willow Street, and Bev, wife of Jim Doughty of Strasburg; along with grandchildren: Bryan and Jen Fay, Megan Hershey, Jamie, wife of Matt Himmelberger, Katie, Lindsay and Tiffany Doughty and 3 great grandchildren: Sydney Fay, Micah and Caleb Himmelberger and a brother, H. William Rineer (Ruth), as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers: Robert, Richard, Walter, Jacob “Pete”, and sisters: Laura, Helen (Allen) and Mary (Krewson). Robert C. DeLong, 85, of North Little Britain Road, Quarryville, PA died Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. He was the husband of the late Edith H. Eberly DeLong who died May 12, 2014. Born in East Drumore Township, he was the son of the late Paul Earl and A. Elizabeth Haverstick DeLong. Mr. Delong was a life-long farmer and in late years enjoyed being an Amish taxi driver. An avid hunter of both white tail deer and elk, he was a member of the NRA and the North American Hunting Club. Robert was a member of Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church, Quarryville, PA. Surviving him are a daughter Connie (Harold) Keene and a sister Dorothy Hensel, both of Quarryville. |
