Charles R. Bingaman, age 73 of Willow Street, passed away on November 20, 2020. He was the husband of Donna Houser Bingaman. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Isabel Wade Bingaman and the late Charles K. Bingaman. Connielly Blevins, 83, of Nottingham, PA passed away Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Twin Pines Health Care Center, West Grove, PA. He was the husband of Janice Ehrhart Blevins. Born in West Chester, PA he was the son of the late William Gather and Mandy May Powers Blevins. Connielly enjoyed his family and especially enjoyed fishing in the Octoraro Lake, Turkey Point and Susquehanna River. Jones O. Bare, Jr. (J.O., Junior, J.R.) 62, of Holtwood, entered into rest on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Hospice and Community Care. Born in Havre De Grace, MD, he was the son of Iona (Howell) Ledford and the late Jones O. Bare, Sr. He was the loving fiancé of Anna Russell for over 16 years. Jones was a Foreman in the Laborers International Union of North America, having worked in various building trades, most recently for PECO Energy. Jones had a fun-loving personality and always had a smile on his face. He cherished time with family and friends and loved doing anything that kept him outdoors. His love of nature was evident in all that he did. He was also giving of his time and enjoyed helping others with projects and home repairs. In his earlier years, he could always be found working on and restoring cars. Deborah Maxwell Joy, 82, of Quarryville, Pa passed away Friday November 13, 2020 at home. She was the wife of Barnard “Hap” Joy with whom she had shared 59 years of marriage. She grew up in Riverdale, IL and graduated from Thorndale High School in 1956. She met and married Hap after a whirlwind romance at Michigan State University, where she graduated from in 1961. After moving 11 times in 25 years, they settled in Lancaster Co. in 1985. Deborah was the proprietor of The Decoy B&B in Strasburg from 1986- 2000. From 2002-2014 she ran Appalachian Book Project, a non-profit organization that provided new and gently used books to poor communities in seven states. They volunteered on 11 projects with MDS, including two months on Chuuk in the Federal State of Micronesia. She spent a lifetime knitting and reading. She was very proud to have reached 5000 books read in the past 20 years. Jacqueline M. Blanchette, 71, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at her home. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Fritz Blanchette and Eileen (Faulkner) McDevitt and the step-daughter of the late Joseph McDevitt and Rose Blanchette. Jacquie had worked in the hospitality industry for over 35 years, having worked her way up to General Manager of the Farm House Restaurant at Loch Nairn Golf Club. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Jacquie enjoyed gardening, cooking, swimming, spending summers in Wildwood, NJ with her cousins, and spending time with her grand and great grandchildren. Harry Mervin “Merv” McMichael, 90, of Quarryville left this world to enter his Heavenly home on Thursday, November 12, 2020. Born in Pequea Township, he was the son of the late Harry G. and Edna M. (Harnish) McMichael. He was the loving husband of Arlene (Herr) McMichael for over 69 years. Merv was a lifelong farmer in New Danville. He loved working with his many animals. He also owned and operated Mer-Lene Tours, along with his wife for over 20 years, giving country wide bus tours in all 50 states. Merv was a faithful member of New Danville Mennonite Church. He and Arlene were known for their hospitality and would open their home to anyone in need. Anita Rose Cashel Reed, 99, passed away peacefully at home on November 12th. The family wishes to thank the local caregivers loving support that made this possible. Anita was born in Grover Hill, Ohio in 1921 and was the daughter of Clarence and Lulu Cashel. She was the widow of Charles Reed who died in 2000. She was preceded in death by her sister Verma Keffer, her brother Raymond Cashel, and her daughter Barbara Trimble. Anita was a graduate of Hillsborough High School, Tampa, Florida. Anita began her first career as a chicken farmer in rural New York State, moving to Peach Bottom in 1952. Her second career was with the USPS, retiring in 1983 after 27 years of service. John R. "Jack" Dyer, Sr., age 77 of Atglen, passed away on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Carol A. Franks Dyer with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage with on October 31st. He was born in Philadelphia, son of the late Robert J. & Emilie Wack Dyer. Jack graduated from Octorara High School class of 1960 and the Ardmore Oklahoma Pilot School. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1967. Jack was an insurance agent for 40 years, for American General, Washington National and Monumental Insurance retiring in 2008. He was a member of the Christiana Masonic Lodge, Rising Sun American Legion and a life member of the Gap V.F.W. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, building cabinets, oldies music, dancing, lifelong Steelers fan, going to the beach and most of all he loved spending time with his family. Cassandra L. Eberly, 69, of Tilden Twp., passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2020 in her residence. She was the companion of Richard E. Long for the past 22 years. Born in Quarryville, Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late William U. Hensel, III and Joanne F. (Ferguson) Young. She graduated from Solanco High School. Cassandra held a few jobs throughout her life, recently working at WalMart in Hamburg for 5 years, and currently working as a school bus driver for Chiefrunningbus, Shoemakersville. She was an avid Horse enthusiast. She enjoyed many years of horseback riding and was a member of Valley Lea Riding Club, Lancaster. Barry Wilmer Hostetter, 60, of Oxford, PA passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2020 at home. He was the husband of Monica Bering Hostetter with whom he shared 38 years of marriage. Born in West Grove, PA he was the son of Wilmer L. and Joyce Landis Hostetter of Oxford. Barry graduated from Oxford High School where he was very involved with football, wrestling and FFA. He was a member of the Holstein Dairy Judging Team. Barry was inducted into the Oxford High Wall of Fame. Upon graduation from high school Barry managed a Holstein dairy herd on the family farm. He served on the Chester Co. Holstein Club, Chester Delaware County Farm Bureau Board, Oxford Zoning Hearing Board. About eight years ago Barry became involved with Herdford beef cattle registering them under his farm name of Hoss Hereford. He was a grain broker for the family business Hostetter Grain. Barry was a member of Penn Ag Industries Feed, grain and ingredients executive committee. He was on the board of directors for the Lighthouse Youth Ministry in Oxford for the past 30 years, serving as chairman for 15 years and currently serving as Vice Chairman. |
