Nancy Jane Engel of Christiana, PA died in her home on July 15, 2023, at the age of 64, after a seven and a half year battle with lung cancer. She was beloved as a wife, mother, grandmother (“Grams”), daughter, sister, and friend. Nancy was born on October 27, 1958 to Warren and Doris High in Bristol, PA. She graduated from Lancaster Mennonite High School. Nancy enjoyed singing and playing the piano. At the end of high school, she was chosen to be a part of Choraleers, a traveling Christian singing group. During her time in this group, they had the opportunity to travel all over the US and Central America. Patsy A. Rohrer, 85, of Quarryville, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023 while under the care of Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. She was the loving wife of the late Donald M. Rohrer, sharing 43 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2010. Born in Kirkwood, she was the daughter of the late Lester C. and Annabelle (Rineer) Farmer. Patsy was a graduate of Solanco High School, class of 1955. She began her career working as a legal secretary at Armstrong World Industries and then became a homemaker to raise her family. She re-entered the workforce working for several law firms, and lastly, William Campbell before retiring in 2001. Dawn M. Mentzer, 80, of Lancaster, entered the loving arms of her Savior on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. Born to John and Mary Stauffer of Lancaster, she was the oldest of six children. Dawn was committed to her family from a young age, leaving her schooling behind, she stayed home full-time to help where needed. Later on, Dawn made her career in sterile processing at Lancaster General Hospital, retiring after 25 years. If Dawn was not at home watching The Price is Right or Wheel of Fortune, you may have found her shopping for sales at Boscov's, eating at Diener's restaurant, or at a Vince Gill concert. Dawn showed her love for others by giving gifts, frequent phone calls, and thoughtful cards. She attended Grace Community Church of Willow Street, and had a great appreciation for St. Jude's Children’s Hospital. James D. Houck, age 42 of Quarryville, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023 at his home. He was happily married to Roni Houck. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of William and Cheryl Reimold Sweigart of Strasburg. He was employed through Clark Associates. Jim loved Rock music, 80’s and 90’s nostalgia, collecting things, Nintendo video games, movies, sports, fantasy football, and he was an avid Cowboys fan. Surviving besides his wife and parents are 4 children; Cheyenne, Austin, Ava, and Grayson Houck, all at home, and 2 siblings; Krissy, wife of Kyle Hammond of Paradise, and William Sweigart, Jr. of Strasburg. Levi F. Stoltzfus, age 73 of 385 Cooper Drive, Kirkwood, passed away on Monday, July 17th, 2023 at home.
He was the husband of Mary R. Miller Stoltzfus. He was born in Ronks, son of the late John K. and Rachel Fisher Stoltzfus and step-son of the late Katie Stoltzfus Stoltzfus. Enos K. Stoltzfus, age 80 of 416 Dry Wells Road, Quarryville, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at his home.
He was the husband of Sadie M. King Stoltzfus. Born in Churchtown, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Rachel King Stoltzfus. Enos was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. Surviving besides his wife are 8 children; Barbara K., wife of Elam S. Zook of Denver, PA, Benjamin K., husband of Sadie K. King Stoltzfus of VA, Fannie K. Stoltzfus of Quarryville, Christian K., husband of Elizabeth K. Stoltzfoos Stoltzfus of Elizabethtown, Jonathan K., husband of Annie K. Stoltzfus Stoltzfus of Ronks, Annie K., wife of Henry B. Smucker of Christiana, Jacob K., husband of Priscilla Stoltzfus Stoltzfus of Honey Brook, and Enos K. Jr., husband of Mary F. Fisher Stoltzfus of Holtwood, 55 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and a sister; Sarah K., wife of John Fisher of Quarryville. Brenda M. Marts, of Nottingham, died on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at the home of her brother. She was 71.
She was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Catherine M. Louthian. Following graduation from Solanco in 1970, Brenda enlisted in the U.S. Army, from which she retired in 1996 with the rank of ISG (First Sergeant). Betty L. Groff, 83, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Christiana, she was the daughter of the late Arvel and Edith (Lewis) Pennington. She was the loving wife of Jay E. Groff for 65 years. Betty was a member of Mt. Eden Lutheran Church and enjoyed quilting and volunteering at Solanco Neighborhood Ministries, New Hope Community Closet, and the Solanco Fair. Betty also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Samuel F. Zook (81), passed away peacefully at home on July 13, 2023.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Retah (Moss), daughter, Trudi Keeport, son, Douglas (Jayne) Zook, grandchildren, Jenn (Matt) Watson, Donelle Keeport, Marshall Keeport, Emily Zook, Douglas Zook Jr., great-grandchild Melissa Keeport, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents, Dan and Sarah Zook, siblings Betsy, Aary, Priscilla, Jake, Amos, Jonas, Dan, and Bucky (Stoltzfus). James P. Wilkins, Jr., 80, of Oxford, PA was sent home to heaven unexpectedly on Tuesday July 11, 2023. James was born in Norfolk, VA. on August 14, 1942. He was the son of the late James P. Wilkins, Sr. and Annie Bell Wilkins. He spent much of his youth in Rocky Mount, North Carolina and graduated from Conetoe High School in 1960. James was drafted into the United States Army in 1963 and became a part of the Advanced Infantry. In 1965 he served in the Vietnam War. His time in Vietnam was spent in combat. He was part of the 1st Infantry Division as a gunner on a helicopter. After returning from Vietnam, he spent 2 years in the Active Reserves and 2 years in the Inactive Reserves, returning to civilian life in 1970. |
