John J. “Johnny” Chambers, Jr., of Kirkwood, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 in Philadelphia. He was 21. Born in Christiana, Delaware, son of John J., and Alison McEwen Chambers of Quarryville. Johnny had attended Solanco High School. He loved riding his BMX bike and enjoyed constructing ramps with his dad. Aimee L. Zahm of Nottingham, Pa. died Monday, June 9, 2014 in Fulton Township as the result of an auto accident. She was 23. Born in Lancaster, she is survived by her father John L. Zahm of Willow Street and her mother Mellissa L. Becker Zahm and stepfather Jamie Osborne of Nottingham. A homemaker and mother, Ms. Zahm graduated from Solanco High School and had just completed her LPN nursing training at Lancaster County Career and Technology Center. She loved life to the fullest and especially her son Zaiden J. Osborne. Margaret Josephine ‘Jo’ (Grumelli) Young entered into rest on the morning of June 9th in her 93rd year at the Mount Joy Hospice Center. She was born on May 27nd, 1922 to Italian immigrant parents, the late Giovinio (Scortico) Grumelli and Antonio D. Grumelli, who settled in the village of Georgetown, Bart Township, Lancaster County. She resided in Georgetown her entire life, within ½ a mile of her childhood home. After Josephine’s father died while working on the Low Grade Atglen-Enola rail line in 1930, her mother raised Jo, her three older brothers and two younger sisters alone through the Great Depression. Giovinio kept her family together by working six days a week in a Lancaster tobacco factory, then coming home to cook, do the housework, and tend a large garden. In later years, along with her siblings, Jo cared for her mother until Giovinio’s death in 1982. Jane W. Deibler, 77, of Friendship Avenue, Lancaster, PA, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2014. She was the widow of the late Richard Deibler who died in 1998. Mrs. Deibler was born in Glen Roy, PA, a daughter of the late Jesse and Beulah Finney Reeves. She had retired from Armstrong World Industries after 39 years as a corporate response manager. She then formed her own business, Customer Response Management, which she operated for 3 years. Jane was also an independent sales director for Mary Kay Cosmetics for 20 years. John Terrell Harris, 67, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on June 5, 2014 after a long illness. John was born July 20, 1946 in Syracuse, NY to the late William and Marion Harris. John grew up in Skaneateles, NY and graduated from Skaneateles High School in 1966. After joining the Army and serving in the Signal Corp in Vietnam, he settled in New York City. John retired as an electrical power maintainer for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in New York City before moving to Quarryville, PA. Having lived in Quarryville, PA for 7 ½ years, he enjoyed woodworking, painting and photography and was a member of the Lancaster Chorale and the Lancaster AARP Chorus. Deborah A. (Blevins) Harvey, 57, of New Providence, entered into rest on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. Born in Lancaster, she is the daughter of Robert L. and Doris J. (Druck) Rowe. Deb and her husband, John R. Harvey had celebrated 3 years of marriage together in September. Deb worked in the warehouse and shipping departments, of Clark Web Store and QVC. She was an outdoors person who enjoyed camping, walking, gardening, traveling and spending time with her family. Harold Andrew (Andy) Jackson, 100, of Peach Bottom, PA entered into rest June 2, 2014. He was the husband of Eva Weaver Jackson. They were married in 1934 in Little Britain Presbyterian Church. They celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary March 21, 2014. Andy was the son of the late Leiper G. and Ila Bradley Jackson. He was baptized in Little Britain Presbyterian Church where he has been a life time member. Mr. Jackson attended Little Britain schools and was a graduate of Quarryville High School. He was a dairyman and crop farmer for most of his life. Thomas A. Bailey of Kirkwood died at home on Friday, May 30, 2014. He was 66.
Mr. Bailey was born in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late Benjamin W. and Ethel Thomas Bailey. He lived in Oxford before moving to Kirkwood. Dennis G. Bowen of Kirkwood died at home on Sunday, June 1, 2014. He was 62. Mr. Bowen was born in Coaldale, a son of the late John and Irene Cupak Bowen. He lived in Cheyney before moving to Kirkwood. He earned a bachelor's degree from West Chester University and taught history at the Woodlyne School, Strafford, for 16 years. After he retired from teaching, he founded and managed a marine science and environmental camp in Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick, Canada. |
