Leora J. Johnson of Lancashire Hall, Lancaster, died at home on Friday, May 9, 2014. She was 79. Mrs. Johnson was born in Conestoga, a daughter of the late Harold and Myrtle Sickman. She lived in Quarryville before moving to Lancashire Hall. She worked at the Warwick Rambler dealership, Lancaster, from 1953 to 1966. In 1984, she began working in the bakery of Historic Strasburg Inn. She also worked at Hershey Farms Bakery and the Market Basket, Strasburg, until she retired in 2013. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, New Providence, the Robert Fulton Chapter 446, Order of the Eastern Star, Armaranth, White Shrine, and Farm Women. Anna E. Metzler of Bunker Hill Rd., Strasburg, died at Lancaster General Hospital on Friday, May 9, 2014. She was 83. Mrs. Metzler was born in East Petersburg, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Florence Myers Huber. She worked with her husband in the family business, Metzler Mower Service. She had also worked in the cafeteria at Strasburg Elementary School. Mrs. Metzler was a member of the Refton Brethren in Christ Church, where she was involved with the Prayer Shawl Ministry. Eric G. Long, 8, of Drumore, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 10, 2014. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Steven E. and Donna S. (Gerhart) Long of Drumore. Eric was an energetic young man who loved life. He enjoyed being active outdoors, swimming, and hanging out with friends. Some of his favorite things to do were going to Dunkin Donuts with his dad, riding in his papap’s ’32 Ford Coupe and spending time with his family at their cabin. Doris J. Rineer, of Ronks, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Lancaster General Hospital. She was 80. Mrs. Rineer was the widow of the late Haines E. Rineer, who passed away in 2008. She was born in Lancaster County, daughter of the late Robert and Susan Kauffman Detwiler. Mrs. Rineer was a homemaker. She was a member of Mt. Eden Lutheran Church in Quarryville. Donald B. Martin, of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community and formerly of Holtwood, died on Monday, May 5, 2014. He was 85. Mr. Martin was born in Drumore Township, son of the late J. Percy and Lula Brabson Martin. He and his late brother Ira were lifelong partners, working on the family farm where they were born. A quiet man, he enjoyed music, WWII history, nature and his family. He was a faithful life member of Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church. |
