Linda J. Armstrong, 69, of Lancaster, passed through the veil to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday April 15, 2018 after 15 months of treatment for thymic carcinoma. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of Marie (Hilton) Dull and the late J. Donald Dull. Linda and her husband, James C. Armstrong, had celebrated 48 years of marriage in August. Linda graduated from Solanco High School and went on to earn a B.S. in mathematics from Wheaton College, IL. Linda taught high school math in Chicago, IL, Brooklyn, NY and Lancaster. Most recently she was the Facilities and Business Director at the Lancaster Farm and Home Center for 15 years. Linda was an active member of Faith Reformed Presbyterian Church and Wheatland Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed music, knitting, and crafts, but her greatest joy was spending time with and caring for her family. Katherine E. “Kathy” Ritter, 68, of New Providence, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018, at her home. She was the wife of the late Harry E. Ritter, Sr. They were married for 21 years at the time of his passing in 2013. Born in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Schmidt) Sweeney. Kathy was a graduate of Wall High School in Monmouth County, NJ, class of 1968. After high school, she attended Consolidated School of Business to earn a Certificate of Medical Transcription. Kathy then went on to work for several companies as a secretary, retiring with over 30 years’ service. Kathy loved the Lord and attended Bible Evangelical Methodist Church for 25 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed making craft projects. Kathy also enjoyed the companionship of her cat that she had as a pet for the last few years. Kenneth F. Steele, 67, of Little Britain, entered into rest on April 9, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Francis Oliver and Lucille (Shoemaker) Steele. Ken and his wife, Maryjo (Gallagher) Steele had celebrated 37 years of marriage in June. Ken graduated from Solanco High School in 1968 and Millersville University in 1975. He was a teacher, farmer, salesman, financial planner and developer. Ken did it all and did it well. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and was an avid car enthusiast. Most of all, Ken enjoyed the time he spent with his family. Surviving besides his wife is a son, Scott Francis and his wife Sarah (Ibach) Steele and their children, Landon Vaughn and Grady Thomas Steele. Harriet E. Kelchen, 81, of New Providence, entered into rest on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Viola (Groff) Yuninger. Her husband, Allan R. Kelchen, Sr., died in 2005. Harriet was a housewife and enjoyed being around her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Eastern Lancaster Rod & Gun Club. She is survived by sons; Steve, husband of Virginia, and Charles, husband of Cynthia, and a daughter, Lucy Wiley, all of New Providence. Harriet also has 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and her four-legged friend, “Peaches”. She was preceded in death by sons Allan R. and William E. Kelchen and a brother, Bill Yuninger. Lloyd Herr Kreider, 96, of Kirkwood, passed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, April 4, 2018.
Born in East Petersburg, he was the son of Elmer and Anna Mary (Herr) Kreider. Lloyd was the husband of Miriam (Hess) Kreider for 16 years. He was a retired dairy farmer and volunteered for many years at Camp Andrews. Lloyd was a member of Oak Shade Mennonite Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Wilmer (Arlene Kurtz) Kreider, James (Linda Martin) Kreider, Margie (Jere Martin), and Paul (Janice Hershey) Kreider. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and brothers: Frank, Norman, John, and Clyde Kreider. He was preceded in death a wife, Anna Hostetter Kreider; a wife, Ruth Byler Kreider; a son, Jay Kreider; a granddaughter, Kimberly Kurtz Kreider and siblings: Elva Breneman, Mervin Kreider, Esther Siegrist, Edith Denlinger, Elmer Kreider and Harold Kreider. Dorothy Susanna Schillinger, 83, of Quarryville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 3, 2018. Born in Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Mary (Bender) Balbierer. She had worked as a lunch monitor at Clermont Elementary School for many years. Dorothy is survived by her children: Deborah, wife of Kirk Komarnicki of Williamsburg, VA; Robert Schillinger of Quarryville; and Lindamarie, wife of John Conn of Peach Bottom. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson, a sister and a brother. Luther B. Kistler Jr, known to his friends as “Red”, 79, of Quarryville PA, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018. He was the husband of Esther Herman Kistler. They had celebrated 60 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster PA, a son of the late Luther B. and Mildred V. Watson Kistler, Sr. Luther had worked as a superintendent with Poole Construction. He enjoyed horse racing and was a member of the Commercial Travelers Club. In the last year, Red was able to relive his younger years riding his Harley. Always active in his life, Red was always willing to lend a hand to family and friends. Dwylin R. Armstrong, 68, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 3, 2018. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Clair and Helen Florence (Rohrer) Armstrong. Dwylin graduated in 1967 from Solanco High School. She worked at the former Hamilton Watch Company for 40 years and went on to retire as a quality engineer from L3 Communications in Lancaster. She was a member of Quarryville Memorial United Methodist Church. Dwylin enjoyed volunteering for Solanco Neighborhood Ministries and Meals on Wheels. When not working or volunteering, she enjoyed traveling. On March 29, 2018, Elias Benjamin Miller, Jr. of Drumore, the strong, shining beacon of our family has gone on to shine brighter with God, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 8, 1940 in Mt. Nebo, he was married for 56 years to Donna Henry Miller. He is also survived by his children, John S. Miller, E. Benjamin Miller III, husband to Danielle M. Miller, Connie S. Miller, Matthew H. Miller, husband to Marti Miller, beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, and many nieces and nephews. He humbly and proudly served his country as a Marine, his family, and his God. He was the compass that guided his beloved family to be better human beings, simply by being the kind, loving man that was loved so dearly. His legacy isn’t measured by standard accolades, achievements, and accomplishments, but rather by handing down love, grace, kindness, generosity, and compassion. His accomplishments didn't rest on a shelf, he was the man who built the shelf. To create something that was made with love in every cut and attention to detail, from rolling pins to hope chests there wasn't anything he couldn't do to show his craftsmanship, and by extension his love for you. His achievements are seen reflected in every person's life he touched. His hugs were legendary and to receive one made you feel like you were enveloped in pure love. Jean D. Hart, 80, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Ware Presbyterian Village, where she had been residing for the last 8 months. Born in Bart Township, she was the daughter of the late Paul L. and Kathryn (Mendhall) Rice. She and her husband, Raymond C. “Skeeter” Hart had celebrated 60 years of marriage in January. Jean graduated from Solanco High School in 1955. She went on to work at the former Raub Supply in Lancaster. In later years, she worked for the former Bowmen’s Snack Bar, Dottie’s Snack Bar, and in food service for Solanco School District, where she retired. She was a member of the Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church. Jean enjoyed her vegetable and flower garden, knitting, baking, reading, and spending time with her family. |
