Nelda Irene Ickes Custer Harnish, age 92 of Quarryville, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021 at the home of her daughter.
She was the wife of the late Russell Howard Custer and the late Earl H. “Doc” Harnish. Born in Weyant, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Minnie Allison Ickes. Nelda was a member of New Paris Church of the Brethren and Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren. In her free time, she loved watching NASCAR, crocheting, flower gardening, and traveling. Bertha E. Johnson, age 100, formerly of Holtwood, passed away at Conestoga View on Saturday, March 13, 2021. She was the wife of the late Carl E Johnson who passed away in 1985. Born in East Drumore Twp., she was the daughter of the late Roy & Mary Eshleman Byers. She attended the New Providence Baptist Church. She was the manager of the laundry department of the former Lancaster Osteopathic Hospital. She was a member of the Pequea Valley Sportsman's Ladies Auxiliary. Bertha enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking and working in her yard. Pearl G. Cochran, 86, of Peach Bottom, entered into rest on March 11, 2021. Born in North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Claude C. and Nancy M. (Greer) Osborne. Pearl was a loving daughter, wife, mother, mom-mom, and great mom-mom, and her family was the most important thing in her life. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, & helping others. Naomi G. Sauer, 90, of Quarryville, died at Lancaster General Hospital, Thursday, March 113/15/2021
Naomi G. Sauer, age 90, of Quarryville, PA, passed away at the Lancaster General Hospital on Thursday, March 11, 2021. She was the wife of Kermit C. Sauer with whom she celebrated 56 years of marriage with on November 14th. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Willis & Frances Myer Groff. She was a member of Calvary Monument Bible Church of Paradise, where she was a faithful volunteer. In the past she had attended Eastern Mennonite College. Naomi loved cats, playing piano, music and most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Sarah E. Groff, 81, of Christiana, went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 while at home. Born in Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Roy E., and Ethel May (Schoeing) Groff. She was the loving wife of Maynard L. Groff for over 62 years. Sarah worked as a clerk at the former Bartville Store. She loved working in her yard and flower gardening. She also enjoyed coloring and spending time with her family. Phyllis A. Farmer, age 78, of Quarryville, PA, passed away at the Lancaster General Hospital Monday, March 8, 2021. She was the wife of Joseph Farmer. She was born in Louisville, KY, daughter of the late Robert & Hattie Grisham Reath. She was a member of the Wrightsdale Baptist Church. She graduated from Millersville University with a degree in social work. Phyllis worked as a social worker for the former St. Josephs Hospital of Lancaster. One thing she was very passionate about was volunteering for the CONTACT Helpline for over 30 years. Mark A Foote, 59, of Perryville MD, passed away on Monday March 8, 2021. He was born and raised in Oxford PA. He was the son of the late Marie Kirk Foote Ham, and stepfather Nathan Ham. He was the husband of Susan Gotschall Foote who passed away September 25th 2017. Mark graduated from Oxford high school, class of 1980. He was employed by commodore computers in West Chester, EB Investment Corp, and Acme Markets in Oxford. He enjoyed going to Wesley church every week, playing video games, and getting some fresh air down by the water. Joan E. Greenleaf, age 88, of Willow Street, passed away at Juniper Village of Mt. Joy on Sunday, March 7, 2021. She was born in Quarryville, daughter of the late Samuel R. and M. Elizabeth Graybill Greenleaf. She was a graduate of West Lampeter High School. She retired from UGI Utilities, Inc., after 41-1/2 years, serving as Secretary to the Operating Manager and Construction & Maintenance Superintendent. Joan was an avid fan of Equestrian events; horse shows, the Devon Horse Show attending for 59 years, Steeplechase Racing, 3-Day Eventing, Fox Hunting with the Cheshire Fox Hunt Club, in Chester County, Delaware and Maryland. Anna W. Thompson, 88, of Kirkwood, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 5, 2021 while at home. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Aaron and Mary (Rummel) Weaver. She was the loving wife of the late John P. Thompson who passed on December 13, 2020. Anna drove school bus for the Solanco School District and also worked in the office at Agway for many years. She also co-owned D&J Campground, along with her husband and served as the tax collector for Colerain Twp. Anna was a member of Union Presbyterian Church and enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, playing games, and spending time with family and friends at the cabin in Tioga County. Donald O. Ostertag, age 82 of Lititz and formerly of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2020, at Brethren Village. He was the husband of Lois A. McGaw Ostertag, with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage on September 2nd. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Otto and Thelma Hershey Ostertag. He was a long time member of Bellevue Presbyterian Church. Don worked for New Holland Machine for 36 years before retirement and went on to work for Lancaster Christian School for 8 years before retiring. He later came out of retirement to help with maintenance at Calvary Baptist Church. Don graduated from Pequea Valley High School, Class of 1957 and Stevens Trade School, Class of 1960. |
