Gerald Edwin “Jerry” Rineer, 90, formerly of Holtwood, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Born in Mt. Nebo, he was the son of the late Edwin and Grace (Hill) Rineer. He was married to the late Anny H. (Gerdes) Rineer on June 28, 1952. Jerry was a life-long member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church. He and Anny served the Lord together in Africa as missionaries, evangelists and church planters from 1953-1992. Jerry then worked for Wenger Pontiac at the Buck, retiring in 2003. Martha E. Frey, 90, of Holtwood, entered into rest on Friday, March 15, 2019. Born in Drumore, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Anna (Eshelman) Weitzel. She was married to the late Eugene K. Frey for over 65 years. Martha was a graduate of Quarryville High School and had worked for Prudential Life Insurance Co. She was a member of Rawlinsville United Methodist Church, where she served as the church secretary. Martha loved quilting, flower gardening, and taking long walks. She was known for being active and even mowing the lawn late in life. Barbara A. Lupold, 78, of New Providence PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at her home. She was the wife of Ronald G. Lupold. They had celebrated 60 years of marriage. Born in Shamokin, PA, a daughter of the late Harold and Kathryn Conrad Arbogast. She was a member of Pequea Brethren in Christ Church where she had taught Sunday School. Barbara enjoyed arts and crafts. In addition to her husband, she is survived by 3 daughters, Debra M. Pannell, New Providence, Carolyn A. Lewis (Gregory), Quarryville, Linda K. Hipple (Paul), New Providence, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, siblings, Jean Huxta, Janet Haddock, Betty Hile, Diane Clouser, Ken Arbogast, Donald Arbogast, Kathy Andreatti, Richard Arbogast, Jeffrey Arbogast, and Dennis Arbogast. Marlene E. “Tootie” McCrabb, 76, of Tanglewood, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2019 at her home. She was the loving wife of Charles H. “Skip” McCrabb. They were married for 53 years until Skip’s recent passing on March 2. Born in New Providence, she was the daughter of the late Carl G., Sr., and Emma (Doulin) Aukamp. Marlene had a deep love for horses. She was very fond of her horse Rex, who was a grandson of Roy Roger’s horse Trigger. In her spare time, Marlene enjoyed polka and square dancing with Skip, as well as playing Parcheesi together. Marlene and Skip truly loved one another and were inseparable, and now after a few days apart are back together again. Verna (Chick) Williams (Helmrich) went to be with her Lord and Savior with her sister Charlotte by her side on March 3, 2019. She was 94 years old. The daughter of Charles and Verna (Klinger) Helmrich was born on Jan 5, 1925 in Camden, N.J. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Esther Brown and Millie Morrow, and her husband Robert (Bob) F. Williams She was a member of Media Mennonite Church in Oxford Pa. She leaves behind a sister, Charlotte King, three nephews, H. Alfred King Jr, Charles King and David King and one niece, Lorraine Weissberg with a number of grand nieces and nephews. Robert S. Book, lovingly known as “Cobbler Bob”, went home to be with his savior on Friday, March 8, 2019 at his home in Quarryville. He was 93. Born in Lancaster, Bob was the son of the late Leighton G. and Della (Armer) Book. Bob and his wife, Betty Jane (Herr) (Trout) Book, had celebrated 9 years of marriage in October. After graduating from Quarryville High School, Bob enlisted in the US Army and served his country during WWII in the US Army Air Corp as a Staff Sergeant in the 5th Air Force 345th Bombardment Group 499th Bombardment Squadron, the “Bats Outa Hell”. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Bob came back to Quarryville and started Book’s Shoe Repair and continued working as a cobbler in Quarryville for over 71 years, and was working in the shop up until the end of February of this year. Donald K. Mowrer, age 77, of Paradise, PA, passed away at the Lancaster General Hospital on Wednesday, March 6, 2019. He was the husband of Ruth Ann Johnson Mowrer, with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage on June 25th. He was born in Paradise, son of the late Kenneth & Evelyn Stetler Mowrer. He was a member of the Georgetown United Methodist Church. In the past Don worked as a salesman for Liberty Homes of Leola and then served as Chief of Police for Bart Township for many years. He was still serving as a Constable. He enjoyed working at Cherry Crest Farm, taking care of the petting zoo. He graduated from Pequea Valley High School class of 1959. He was a life member of the Bart Township Fire Company, where in the past he served as Chief and in various other positions. He enjoyed listening to southern gospel and bluegrass music, traveling, camping, going to Dollywood, Pittsburgh Steelers and most of all he loved spending time with his family. Charles H. “Skip” McCrabb, 77, of Quarryville, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at his home. He was the beloved husband of Marlene E. (Aukamp) McCrabb, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
Born in Quarryville, he was the son of the late Charles H., Sr., and Mary R. (Loyd) McCrabb. Skip was a graduate of Quarryville High School, class of 1959. After high school, he found employment in the construction industry. Skip first performed general construction, then went on to work as a cabinetmaker, working for Ira C. Herr for many years, and most recently for Conestoga Country Kitchens, retiring in 2007. Skip proudly served in the Pennsylvania National Guard and the U.S. Army as a Medical Corpsman. Shirley E. (Roland) Gregg, 83, of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, entered into rest on Thursday, February 28, 2019. Born in Quarryville, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Mattie Belle (Richardson) Roland. She was married to the late Robert E. Gregg.
Shirley was a honor graduate of Empire Beauty school and worked as a self-employed hairdresser. She retired from Conestoga View (hairdresser) and the former St. Joseph Hospital (as CNA) in Lancaster. She was of the Christian faith and part of the Baptist denomination. She enjoyed craft sewing, canning and gardening. She will be remembered for her easy laugh and contagious giggle. Richard Allen “Dick” Herr, 80, took the hand of his Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 3, 2019 in East Drumore Township, the township where he was born and raised. Dick was the son of the late Daniel H. and Henrietta (Johnson) Herr. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma (Phenegar) Herr. Dick was a life-long member of Little Britain Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and deacon and sang in the church choir. He was a truck driver for High Steel and E.M. Herr. After retiring, Dick delivered for Solanco Meals on Wheels, and he spent his days visiting and helping family and friends. Earlier in life, Dick played for the Lancaster County Mohawks Semi-Pro Football team. He was instrumental in creating the Solanco Midget Football Program, where he also coached. He recently was inducted into the Solanco Athletic Hall of Fame. Dick was an avid fan of Solanco sports. He enjoyed snowmobiling, riding motorcycle, boating, hunting, fishing, traveling, and chopping wood! He was a music lover, enjoyed playing (and winning) pinochle, was a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, Penn State Nittany Lions, and the Oakland A’s. Most of all, he loved spending time with his growing family. |
