Glenn H. Deiter, 85, of Willow Street, went home to heaven on Thursday, January 16, 2020, surrounded by his family. Born in New Providence, he was the son of the late W. Clair and Anna (Herr) Deiter. Glenn’s wife, Betty (Graver) Deiter, passed away in 2006. Glenn graduated from Lampeter-Strasburg High School and went to work for Sperry/New Holland. He then served in the US Army. After fulfilling his duty, Glenn went back to work for Sperry New Holland, where he retired (then Ford New Holland) as an inventory control technician. He went on to work for PECO, and following a second retirement, worked at the former Buck Hardware Store. Maris W. Trout, 95, of Buck Road, Quarryville, PA died Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Arlene E. Mowrer Trout who died April 3, 2017. Born in Bart Township, he was the son of the late Maris R. and Elsie Malinda Wimer Trout. Maris had previously worked for Holtwood Power Plant and the as a welder for Herr’s Motor Express from which he retired in 1989. He enjoyed cutting and splitting wood for burning and gardening. Maris was a member of Lancaster Seventh Day Adventist Church. Henry R. “Jack” Combs, Jr, 73, of Truce Road, New Providence, PA died Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Lancaster General Hospital after a 3 year battle with cancer. He was the husband of Joyce E. Trout Combs. Born in Avon Grove, PA he was the son of the late Henry R. and Arzella Arnold Combs, Sr. Henry was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church, Lancaster where he served as an usher and as a church softball coach. He was also a member of Southern Lancaster County Sportman’s Association. A Vietnam veteran, he served his country proudly in the US Navy. Jesse Ray “HOOD” McMillan, 59, of Kirks Mill Road, Nottingham, PA died Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Lancaster General Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the husband of P. Diane Jones McMillan. Born in West Chester, PA he was the son of the late Arthur Clay and Mary Ellen Armer McMillan. Hood was a hard working family man and enjoyed their company as well as his friends. Always helping others, in death he continued to do so by being an organ donor. Mary Elizabeth Towber, 62, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Hospice and Community Care, surrounded by her children. She had previously been cared for by her daughter, Danielle. Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Lillian B. (Simms) Towber. Mary had worked for Herr Foods in Nottingham for over 27 years. She enjoyed crocheting scarves and working in her yard. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and collecting stuffed monkeys. Willis Brubaker Krantz died January 14, 2020. He was born April 5, 1928 to Zella (Brubaker) and Ivan Krantz in Hessdale, PA, and he attended New Providence Mennonite Church until he was married. Willis grew up on the family farm and graduated from Lampeter-Strasburg High School. He farmed his entire life, but also drove school bus, did custom field work, sold baler twine, and participated with Lancaster Soil Conservation and Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. He was an active member of the Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren, where he was a member of the Christian Workers Sunday School Class and the Men’s Work. In his later years, he enjoyed woodworking, mowing, and tinkering in his shop. Warren T. "Mac" Groff, 93, of Quarryville, died Sunday, January 12 at Lancaster General Hospital1/16/2020
Warren T. “Mac” Groff, 93, of Quarryville, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2020, at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Cecelia F. (Groff) Groff, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage. Born in Colerain Township, he was the son of the late John Walter Groff, Sr. and Violet (Thompson) Groff. Mac was a graduate of Quarryville High School, class of 1944. He was a farmer for his entire life, retiring in 2017. As a side business, Mac worked as a butcher. He joined the Quarryville Lions Club in 1968, earning the distinctions of lifetime member, oldest member, and the longest member of the club. Robert Lee Braightmeyer, 85, a Quarryville area resident all of his life, entered into rest on Monday, January 13, 2020 at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Born in Oxford, PA, he was the son of the late Harold and Evelyn (Griest) Braightmeyer. He and his wife, Lorraine (Myers) Braightmeyer, had celebrated 62 years of marriage in March. Bob was employed for over 50 years with the former Stoner-Wade Ford in Quarryville. He was a member of St. Paul’s Church, where he sang in the choir and served on the consistory. Maude Allie (Pauline) Prewitt Baker of Oxford, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home, surrounded by loved ones, on Friday, January 10th, at the age of ninety-three. Pauline was born in West Grove, PA on July 8th, 1926 to father, Reese Prewitt and mother, Agnes Rowland. She is preceded in death by both parents, husband, Leonard Baker, her four children, Dawn Baker, Steven Baker, Connie Gates, and infant son Ronnie, her brother, Robert Prewitt, her three sisters, Betty Osborne, Bonnie Weller, Ruby Peterson, and her grandson, Gordon Gates. Pauline is survived by her two brothers, Reese Prewitt and Herbert Prewitt, her three sisters, Mary Hamm, Bernice Hollifield, and Carolyn Moran, nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and twenty-four great-great grandchildren. Susie L. Boyer, 67, of Oxford, PA, passed on Wednesday, January 8, 2020. Susie was born at Chester County Hospital in West Chester, PA on May 3, 1952. Susie was born to the parents of Zeola M. Davis and Thompson Boyer. Susie graduated from Unionville High School, class of 1969. She was employed with Lincoln University and retired after 38 years of service. |
