Helen I. Herr, 90, of Red Hill Road, Pequea, PA died at her residence on Friday, January 13, 2017. She was the widow of John C. Herr who died April 21, 2005. Born in Lancaster she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Mabel Murr Trimble. Helen was a homemaker and enjoyed a lifelong love of sewing, doing sewing projects for many people over the years. She also did chair caning. She was an active volunteer and member of Rawlinsville United Methodist Church and a member of West Willow Senior Citizens. She also volunteered at Lancaster Regional Hospital and the Rawlinsville Fire Company. Virginia F. Abel, 88, of Quarryville, PA, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2017 at St Anne’s Retirement Community, Lancaster, PA. She was the wife of Richard A. Abel. They would have celebrated 66 years of marriage on February 3, 2017. Born in Lancaster, Virginia was a daughter of the late Frank and Charlotte Tregessor Flick. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Quarryville. Virginia was a past member of Quarryville Soroptomist Club and had volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Above all else, she was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother to her family. Her sense of humor was always welcomed by her friends and family. Dolores Ethel (Tucker) Baker, 86, of Kirkwood, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late George L. and Mabel (Spangler) Tucker Mecsel. She was married to the late Harry G. Baker who died on December 26, 1993. Dolores was a member of the Octorara Chapter D.A.R. and a former member of the Fulton Grange #66. She enjoyed counted cross-stitching, crocheting, and genealogy. Amos J. Caldwell, 72, of Strasburg, entered into rest on Monday, January 9, 2017 at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Charles W. and Lillian (Newport) Caldwell. Amos served our country proudly in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from FlexSteel. Amos enjoyed golfing and was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was a member of the 8th Ward Club in Lancaster. Gary L. Kline, 75, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Sunday, January 8, 2017. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Claude K. and Violet (Basford) Kline. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Dorothy C. Kline.
Gary was a longtime computer programmer and systems analyst. He was a deacon and elder in P.C.A. churches. He was a train enthusiast and was especially interested in World War II history. Gary loved being with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. Shirley J. Eckman, 81, of Peach Bottom PA, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2017. Born in Lancaster PA, Shirley was a daughter of the late Lewis F. and Lois Graybeal Tollinger. She enjoyed cooking and her kids. She is survived by 6 children, Joseph Klein, John Klein, Julie Klein, Jeffrey Eckman (Annette), Richard Eckman (Stacey), Ronald Eckman (Shauna), 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and a brother, Robert Tollinger. Melvin L. “Mel” Rineer, 84, of Quarryville, entered into rest unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 3, 2017. Born in Bart, he was the son of the late Guy and Mary (Hubert) Rineer. Mel’s wife, Kathleen (Ressel) Rineer passed away in 2007. Mel worked most of his life for the Solanco School District in the maintenance dept. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. Mel was a member of Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church, Legion Post #603, National Rifle Assoc. and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He enjoyed trips to the cabin in Huntington Co., along with hunting and fishing. When Mel was younger he played baseball locally and in his later years he followed baseball on TV and all the other local school sports. Mel loved spending time with his family and friends. Virginia L. Corbin, 79, of New Providence, entered into rest on Sunday, January 1, 2017. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Leah (Shull) Mellinger. She and her husband, Robert C. Corbin had celebrated 55 years of marriage in September. Virginia was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, cooking, flowers and crafts. Surviving besides her husband Robert is a daughter, Jennifer L. wife of Steven Nye of Peach Bottom along with 4 granddaughters, 1 great-granddaughter, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert C. Corbin, II. Donald H. Lefever, 81, of Strasburg, loving husband and father, entered into rest on January 2, 2017 at Lancaster General Hospital. He and his wife Shirley A. Brown Lefever celebrated 62 years of marriage this past October. Born in Eden Township, he was the son of the late Lloyd D. and Esther Hershey Lefever. Don had previously worked for the former Schick Inc. as head of purchasing for 20 years until their closing. He then worked for Harley Davidson for 20 years as director of purchasing until his retirement. Harry W. Metzler, 76, formerly of Newmanstown, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 2, 2017 at the home of his daughter in Mohnton, after a courageous 5-year battle with multiple myeloma. Born in Holtwood, he was a son of the late Benjamin H. and Ruth (Walter) Metzler. He was married to the late Miriam E. Metzler who passed away in 2011. Harry was a lifelong dairy farmer and an active member of Rawlinsville Mennonite Church. He lived a life of serving his family and others, following the example of his Lord and Savior. |
