Anna Mae Forbes of Quarryville died at home on Thursday, September 12, 2013. She was 88. Mrs. Forbes was born in Baltimore, a daughter of the late Arthur and Edith Katherine Bradley Weaver. She was a graduate of Millersville State Teachers College. Mrs. Forbes worked as a school librarian, first in New Jersey and then in the Solanco School District. She retired from Solanco in 1990 after 38 years' service. She was an active volunteer with the Quarryville Library. She also served on the library's board of directors and with its capital campaign.
Mrs. Forbes was one of the founding members of the Quarryville Teenage Club. She was also involved in Release Time for Solanco students . She was a member of the Quarryville Lions Club, the Gideons, and the Oak Hill Fellowship Church. Mrs. Forbes is survived by her husband of 61 years, J. Roland Forbes; her daughter, Marjorie, wife of Arnt Thuen of Morris Plains, N.J.; her granddaughter, Anna; her sister, Sarah "Sally" Jackson of Quarryville, and her "adopted daughter" and close friend, Dr. Phyllis Oblander of the Phillippines. A sister, Katherine Ambler, is deceased. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, September 16, at the Ellingsworth Auditorium, Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, 625 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville. Services will be held from the auditorium at 11 a.m. on that date. Burial will be in the Quarryville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Quarryville Library, 357 Buck Rd., Quarryville PA 17566. Arrangements were made through Reynolds Funeral and Cremation Services, Quarryville.
