Sarah Jane Bryant of Perryville died at home Tuesday, February 25, 2014. She was 85. She was born in 1928 in Scranton, Pa., the first child of Christmas Reese and Sarah Jane Edwards Williams. She was first generation Welsh and was proud of her heritage. In 1948 her family moved to Baltimore, where she met Bill Bryant. They became engaged in 1949 and were married August 12, 1950. They lived in Maryland for the remainder of their marriage. Mrs. Bryant’s Maryland career began in 1967 as secretary to the Volunteer Coordinator at Rosewood Hospital Center. In 1972 she was appointed Director of Volunteers at Mount Wilson Hospital Center and maintained this position until 1979 when transferred to Deer’s Head Center in Salisbury. In 1981 she was appointed Director of Volunteer Services for Department of Juvenile Services for the state of Maryland and held this position until her retirement in 1994.
In 1996, the Bryants retired to Perryville. Mrs. Bryant spent those years actively involved in the guidance of her children and her grandchildren’s spiritual lives. Mrs. Bryant was a devout Catholic and because of her involvement in all aspects of life, she was known to attend various churches to experience other religions. Mrs. Bryant is survived by her loving husband of 63½ years, William F. Bryant; three children, Pamela Darling, William F. Bryant, Jr., and Kelley Koch; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, March 1, 2014, noon, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville. Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, February 28, 2014, 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Deacon Luke Yackley of Good Shepherd Parish, Perryville, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mark’s Cemetery, Perryville. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., P.O.
