Mr. Paul Stewart McIlwain of Rising Sun died Saturday, October 18, 2014. He was 56. Mr. McIlwain was born on June 3, 1958 in Wilmington, Del., the son of the late James and Florence McIlwain of New Castle, Del. He attended college for music and was a self-taught chef. Since 2001, Mr. McIlwain worked as the Music Teacher for Good Shepherd Catholic School of Perryville. He also served as the Music Director for the West Nottingham Presbyterian Church of Colora. As an accomplished church organist, Mr. McIlwain was sought after to perform on weekly basis and at holiday services. He received multiple honors and awards as an individual bagpiper and as a member of the Ogilvy Highlanders and Delmar and District Pipe Band. His love of the outdoors contributed to him becoming an Eagle Scout. Mr. McIlwain is survived by his wife, Connie; his sister, Joan Robinson; and Connie’s two sons. He took pleasure in entertaining his four grandchildren, his nephews, and their children. He is also survived by four half-sisters, Kathy Davis, Carole Briske, Susan Dias, and Barbara Briske all of Florida. He was preceded in death by his half-brother, Jimmy Briske. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 10 a.m., at the Christiana Presbyterian Church of Newark, Del. The family will receive guests from 9-10 a.m., at the church prior to the funeral service. Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, October 24, 2014, 7-9 p.m., at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville. Burial will be in Brookview Cemetery, Rising Sun. Memorial contributions may be made to Delmar and District Pipe Band in care of Lee A.
