Lucia G. Demond of North East died Wednesday, February 26, 2015, in Union Hospital, Elkton. She was 89. Born in Elkton on April 6, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Russell and late Margaret Bradley Grant. Mrs. Demond attended North East Public Schools and the University of Texas where she was a member of the Phi Mu sorority. She was a substitute teacher and aide for Bay View Elementary School. Mrs. Demond was a docent for Winterthur Museum's spring tours for 13 years.
She was an antiques dealer in Richmond, Va. She helped start a docent program at the Valentine Museum while living in Richmond. Mrs. Demond also helped found the North East Women's Civic League and was active in the North East UMC as a Sunday School teacher and circle leader. Mrs. Demond and her husband operated The Mill House B & B for 11 years. She is survived by her daughter, Gabrielle D. Oldham and her husband John, son, Ulysses Grant Demond IV and wife Tonya, niece Lauren Eib, grandson Ulysses Grant Demond V, granddaughters Nicole Wilson, Tiffany Demond and Whitney Demond, great granddaughters Silvie Wilson and Audrey Wilson, and great grandsons Grant VI and Jackson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ulysses G. "Nick" Demond and their daughter Lucinda. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Bert Jicha, will be held Monday, March 3, at North East United Methodist Church, 308 South main Street, North East. Frieinds may call Sunday, March 1, from 5-7 p.m. at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 S. Main St., North East. Burial will be private in North East Methodist Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Women's Civic League or North East UMC in care of Crouch Funeral Home, 127 S.
