John J Diamonte, Sr. of North East died at home Friday, May 23, 2014. He was 67. Born in Charlestown on December 24, 1946, he was the son of the late Mario and the late Lorraine (Borden) Diamonte. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he trained in underwater demolition. Mr. Diamonte was employed by Amtrak, beginning his 33 year career as a laborer and later transitioning to a management position as a resident engineer, overseeing construction projects.
He loved hunting, fishing, playing cards or billiards. Most of all he loved his family and friends. He is survived by his brother, Oliver A. Diamonte of Elkton; Vicki Diamonte, his wife of 22 years; his children, Sean and Amanda Diamonte, Christina Diamonte, and John Diamonte, Jr. all of North East; his stepchildren, William and Rebecca Harman of Charlestown, Wendy Van Dyke and Darrin Pritchard of Port Deposit, Paul Andrew and Kim Harman of Charlestown, W.Va.; grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 11 a.m. from Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, where the family will receive guests on Tuesday, from 2-4 p.m. and again in the evening from 6-8 p.m. Rev. Kenneth Murray and Rev. Dennis Gilbert will officiate. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to CaringBridge.org or The Purple Heart Foundation, in care of the funeral home.
