Howard J. Schuckler, "Bussie" and "Grand Bus", died at home on April 21, 2014. He was born on June 28, 1920 in Wilmington, Del., son of the late Howard and Catherine Schuckler. From the time he was a young man, he loved to fly planes. This passion carried over into his military life when he was a pilot in World War II where he served as a captain with the India-China division of the Air Transport Command and in the Korean Conflict where he earned a Purple Heart. After the war, Howard lived in Charlestown, where he help build and volunteer for the fire department. It was there that he developed his interest in the bay and earned his captain’s license. As a civilian, he worked alongside Aberdeen Proving Ground’s top physicists until his retirement. Mr. Schuckler was a true Renaissance man, loving nature, books, good music, wine, cowboy movies and of course, family.
In addition, he was an artist, loved playing golf, an airplane builder and an accomplished woodworker. He is survived by two daughters, Carol Baicy and Patricia Holleran, Carol’s fiancee, Antonio Salles, Pat’s husband, Tom; brother, Joseph Schuckler and sister, Louise Jannaman, of Wilmington, Del.; sister, Kathleen Kosinski, of North East; grandchildren, Jamie Barnes and wife, Sara, of Warwick, Holly Millon Sainte Claire and husband, Max, of Jupiter Fla., TJ Holleran and Nadya Kozhevnikova, of Redwood City, Cal., Candice A. Agnello and husband, Ray, of Charlottesville, Va.; and great-grandchildren, Cameron Barnes, Allison Barnes, Rachel and Kirsten Millon Sainte Clair and Tony Agnello. All services will be private.
