Harriet Rogers Durgin, 93, of Rising Sun, MD passed away peacefully Friday, September 26, 2014. Born November 22, 1920 in Wilmington, DE, Harriet was the daughter of the late Cecil D. Rogers and Lilla V. Bethards. Harriet graduated from P.S. DuPont High School in 1938 and from Goldey Business School in 1940, both are located in Wilmington, DE. She worked at DuPont in Wilmington after graduation and during WWII. She later retired from the Perry Point Veterans Hospital after 20 years as a medical secretary. After retirement, Harriet was a watercolor and oil artist. She was also an avid quilter. Harriet had resided on the family farm near Rising Sun, MD since 1959. Harriet is survived by her son, Robert F. Dugin and his wife, Roberta of Bel Air, MD; son-in-law, Edward Groom of Rising Sun, MD; sister-in-law, Vera Rogers of Lewis, DE; seven grandchildren, Kenneth H. Haines of Havre de Grace, MD, Steven C. Haines of Colora, MD, Sara R. Hulbert of Ellicott City, MD, Mark R. Haines of Rising Sun, MD, Leanna M. Keaton of Mt. Airy, MD, Cassandra E. Burkholder of Columbia, MD, and Rebecca L. Durgin of Bel Air, MD; 12 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Harriet was preceded by her parents; her loving husband, Robert B. Durgin; 2 children, Barbara D. Curto and Nancy D. Groom and her brother, Cecil B. Rogers. A service honoring Harriet’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911, where family and friends may visit beginning at 12:00 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made payable to Janes Methodist Church and sent in care to the funeral home. Comments are closed.
