Gary F. Simmons, of Long Point, Hack Point, died at home surrounded by his family, Thursday, April 30, 2015. He was 60. Mr. Simmons was born on March 10, 1955, in Havre de Grace, son of Dewey C. Simmons, Sr., of Bel Air and the late Bessie Shalone Simmons. He lived in Aberdeen and Alabama until making his home in Long Point in 1985. He was a 1973 graduate of Aberdeen High School. His career began in 1976 with Conrail as a conductor for 20 years and retired after 14 years of service with Septa as a conductor and supervisor in 2010. Mr. Simmons started his volunteer fire service career in 1971 with the Aberdeen V.F.C. and for the past 27 years has been a member of Hacks Point F.C. where he had held all the fire line positions and currently serving on the Board of Directors For 14 years he served as Chief of the fire company and in 2011 was unanimously elected Chief Emeritus. He also was the regional instructor for Hunter Safety for the State of Maryland and a member of TRI-Count Dive Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kathleen Sim Simmons, two children, Eric Brandon Simmons and wife, Joyce, of Bear, DE and Shane Simmons Broadwater and husband Chris, of Elkton; a brother, Dewey Simmons, Jr., of Rising Sun; a sister, Shirley Goforth, of Fairbanks, Alaska; two grandchildren, Hailey Boulden and Aiden Broadwater. Friends called in the engine room of the Hacks Point Fire Company on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 from 10 a.m. to noon. Services were held immediately following.
