Floyd E. Allred, of Colora, died on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. He was 78. Mr. Allred was a lifelong resident of Colora, and was born on May 10, 1935, son of the late Bernice Brammer Allred and Floyd E. Allred, Sr. He was a self-employed farmer and lived and farmed in the Colora area all his life. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and also served for 42 years on the Cecil County Conservation District Board. He was recognized as a pioneer of no-till planting.
Mr. Allred was an active member of Janes United Methodist Church for 42 years, serving the church in many capacities. He was a member of the Men's Wednesday Morning Bible Study Group, the Seekers Sunday School Class and Janes Senior Saints. Also an active Lions Club member. He served in Rising Sun Lions for many years and then joined Conowingo Lions in order to serve on the Board of West Cecil Health Center. He enjoyed reading, puzzles, sports, dancing and traveling. He had traveled to all 50 states and six foreign countries. He was a member of a dance group, Southern Sidekicks, for 20 years. Mr. Allred is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lorriane; sons, David, and wife Delia, Stephen, and wife Beverly, and Jeffrey, and wife Sharron; grandchildren, Hannah, Mallory, Amanda, Nicholas, Mathew, Carson and Kerrigan; and step-grandchildren, Liza Manjarrez and Nicole Vanderwerff; brother, Rodney, of Claremore, OK and a sister, Darlene Gibson, of Colora. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Daniel. Friends can call at the R.T. Foard Funeral Home in Rising Sun on Sunday, February 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. and also on Monday, February 24 at Janes United Methodist Church from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the church on Monday, February 24 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
