Eleanor Bavington “Miss Ele” Crossan, 94, of Fair Hill, MD, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 at her residence, a farm where she had lived her entire life. Born on November 23, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Chester Robert and Lillian Mae Chambers Bavington. Miss Ele had attended Fair Hill School, graduated from Elkton High School in 1939 and Goldey College in 1941. She worked at Atlas Powder Company and as a Stanley Home Products dealer for 8 years. The next 38 years, she was Secretary at Kenmore Elementary School where she loved all the students and teachers. On December 28, 1946, she married Clarence Ogden Crossan, Jr. and they had two daughters, she became active in PTA and as a 4-H leader for 28 years. She enjoyed working with people, traveling the world, writing letters and cards, making custards and puddings for those who needed a hug. Following retirement, Miss Ele spent many years volunteering with the Lions Club, the Elk Creek Preservation Society, Rock Presbyterian Church, Kenmore Homemakers Club, Cecil County Democrat Club, Elkton High School Alumni Association, Women’s Club of Cecil County, Red Hat Society, Maryland 4-H All -Stars, Friends of Cecil County Library, Covered Bridge Theater and Treasurer for Delegate David Rudolph. In addition to her parents, Miss Ele was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Clarence O. Crossan, Jr., her “Sunny Daddy”, and her aunt, Sara Chambers. Survivors include her daughters, Connie King and Wendy Webb; grandsons, Brady Hall (Heather Schaller), Harlan Corbin Montanye King (Becky Blaha), Clarence Robert Webb III and wife, Shannon, and Kyle David King (Shadow Blackburn); great grandson, Harlan King; twin great granddaughters, Cameron Jane Webb and Madelyn Paige Webb and new baby granddaughter, Aubree Lynn Hall, and sister-in-law; Jean Crossan Hoffecker.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers, Gina, Lynn, Ruth, Gloria, Holly, Diane, Debbie, Jessica, Teresa and Melissa and the many caregivers of Seasons Hospice and Connie Beaston, whom she treasured as a daughter. Her family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday, August 9 at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton MD 21921. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, August 10 at Rock Presbyterian Church, Telegraph Road, Elkton with visitation at the church one hour before service time. Interment will follow in Head of Christiana Cemetery, Newark, DE.
