Daniel Schnatz of Elkton died Wednesday, July 20, 2016. He was 67. He was born in Elkton on December 12, 1948 to Joseph Sr. and the late Margaret (Sis) Schnatz. Mr. Schnatz was a 1967 graduate of Elkton High School and a 1973 graduate of the University of Delaware. He was beloved as an educator and coach; as a husband and father; as a grandpop and friend and as a truly good and humble man whose capacity to give to others knew no bounds. Mr. Schnatz married his high school sweetheart, Sharon, and they shared 43 years of everything that life could serve up, including having two amazing daughters, Jennifer and Julene.
He exhibited athletic prowess and a love of sports at a young age. That blossomed into 34 years of education and coaching in the Cecil County Public School system as well as unofficial mentoring and volunteering, touching the lives of so many. His legacy will be one of a truly good man who was dedicated to serving others. He taught us all that kindness, compassion, self-sacrifice and a sense of humor are what define a person of character. He will be dearly missed. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife Sharon; daughters, Jennifer and her husband, John Eveges and their three daughters, Lainey, Lexi and Livi of Meridian, Mississippi, and Julene and her husband, Scott Stephan and their two daughters, Allie and Becca of Middletown, Del. He is also survived by his brothers, Joseph Jr. of Chesapeake City and Charles of Elkton; sisters, Christine Madron of Rising Sun and Andrea Catanzarito of Rising Sun; and 10 nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Amy Schnatz. A celebration of his life will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 E. Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921, where friends and family may visit beginning at 3:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the “Dan Schnatz Memorial Athletic Fund” and sent care of the funeral home.
