Dale Arthur Haywood, Sr. of Colora died at home Saturday, July 23, 2016. He was 74. He was born January 19, 1942 in Traverse City, Michigan to the late George E. and Wanetta J. Haywood. Mr. Haywood married his wife of 50 years, Sally Ann (Putnam) on August 5, 1965 in Bel Air. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 17 in 1959. He completed three tours in Vietnam, one in Korea and two in Germany. He was honorably discharged as a decorated Chief Warrant Officer (CW2) and was bestowed many medals including a Bronze Star. After the Army, his service continued full-time in the National Guard and Civil Service, until his retirement in 2001.
He also operated his own small engine repair shop. Mr. Haywood enjoyed time in his shop, travel in his motor home, fishing, and most of all, time with family. In addition to his wife, Sally Ann, he is survived by three sons, Dale Jr. and wife Heather, Mallie K. and wife Betty Jo, and Anthony R. and wife Carrie; three grandchildren, Steven, Josh and Rachel; three great grandchildren, Alexis, Brock and Levi; and two siblings, George E. and Donna Jean. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Glenna. A viewing will be held at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, Thursday, July 28 from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will be held at Gateway Baptist Church, 58 Foxy Ct., Rising Sun, on Friday, July 29 at 10 a.m., followed by a service at 11.
