Arthur F. Allen of Colora, MD, 79 , died July 23, 2016 at Riverview Rehab and Health Center. He was born in Athol, MA to the late Rutherford and Ellen Emmit Allen. He is survived by his wife Charleen Banks; his son Anthony Allen; his stepsons William and wife Tammy and David and wife Nellie Banks; brothers Walter and wife Joanne and James ; sisters Sandy Harrington, Mildred Mallory, Donna and husband Roger; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Arthur Allen; brothers Neil, Glen, Wayne, David, Rutherford and Richard; sisters Beverly Ryzychy and Margie Dufore. He was a harness horse trainer and driver and a longstanding member of the United States Trotting Association. Art had a real love of the sport. He started working with Standardbred horses on the family farm when he was six years old. He honed his craft and went on to work for Stanley and Vernon Dancer for many years. Art eventually owned his own stable and he raced at Brandywine Raceway, Dover Downs, Freehold Raceway, Free State Raceway, Harrington Raceway, Liberty Bell Raceway, Meadowlands, Pocono Downs, Roosevelt Raceway, Rosecroft and Yonkers. Art will always be remembered for his passion, honesty and integrity for the sport of harness racing. He lived and worked in New Egypt, NJ for many years before settling in Boothwyn, PA on the Forwood Stables racehorse breeding farm from 1970-1985. Every foal that was born was a new and exciting challenge for him. Art had a real gift and enjoyed breaking the yearlings to get them ready to train and race.
He relocated in 1985 to Colora, where he continued to train horses. He shared his knowledge and love of horses with a group of young people who considered him a great mentor and a second father.
