Virgie Lougay Barton Crabtree, 73 of North East, MD, died Monday, September 12, 2016 in Union Hospital, Elkton, MD. Born in Hayside, VA, on April 8, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Walter Barton and the late Naomi (Barton) Hoke. She is survived by her husband of 55 years: Amberson Crabtree; their children: David L. Crabtree, Donald R. Crabtree and Connie Alley all of North East, MD; her siblings: Curtis Barton of FL, James Barton of WV, Christine Keebler of Elkton, MD and Nadine Crabtree of North East, MD; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Mildred M. Franklin, 81, of North East, MD, formerly of Oxford, PA passed away Monday, September 12, 2016 at Seasons Hospice, Rosedale, MD. She was the wife of the late David J. Franklin. Born in West Grove, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frank C., Sr. and Mildred Riggins Moroney. She was employed as a secretary for the United States Naval Training Center, Port Deposit, MD. Mildred was a member of Jennersville Church of the Brethren. Donald Norwood Williams of Conowingo, MD, died on Monday, September 12, 2016 at his home. He was 92 years old.
Mr. Williams was a lifelong resident of Liberty Grove and Conowingo. He was the son of the late Norwood and Margaret Williams. He was the beloved husband of the late Bessie M. Williams for 71 years before her death on September 11, 2015. Prior to his retirement he was an independent truck driver. Mr. Williams enjoyed visits from his family and friends. He also enjoyed following the Baltimore Orioles, the Baltimore Ravens and NASCAR. One of his enjoyments in the last few years was eating at Spready Oak Café with his buddies. Mr. Williams is survived by his six children; Rodney Williams and wife, Lillie; Darlene Hudson and husband, James; Steven Williams and wife, Karen; Robin Brueckman and husband, William; Carlene McGlothlin; and Donald Williams and wife, Kathy. He had 16 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson. He is also survived by his sister, Ann Wright and husband, Thomas. Carol Diane Funk, 62 years, of Port Deposit, MD, passed away Monday, September 12, 2016 in Upper Chesapeake Medical Center Harford Memorial Hospital of Havre de Grace, MD. Born October 29, 1953 in Havre de Grace, MD, she was the daughter of Lillian May Morris Wiggins and the late Robert Hess Wiggins.
Carol was a member of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church of Rising Sun, MD, and formerly employed for 27 years by the Conowingo Post Office, Conowingo, MD. Carol is survived by her husband, Rex Alan Funk of Port Deposit, MD; son, Jeremy Matthew Funk of Rising Sun, MD; daughter, Jodi Marie Finney and husband, Charles, of Port Deposit, MD; five grandchildren, Connor, Collin, Carter and Caylee Finney, and Sydney Funk; one brother, Denny Wiggins and wife, Bernice. Betty J. Campbell, 77, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 11, 2016. Born on January 4, 1939 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Branton (Clark) Crigler. Betty helped start the daycare at the Church of the Nazarene with her good friend, Mrs. Moore. She worked at the daycare for many years caring for the many children that came through the doors. In her spare time, Betty greatly enjoyed crafting, especially crocheting and sewing. Layne Gilbert Sprout, Jr., 66 of Elkton, MD, died Sunday, September 11, 2016.
He was born in Elkton, on August 12, 1950. Layne served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He retired from the University of DE where he worked as a security offices. He loved decoys and going to shows. His faithful companion, Bear the dog was always by his side. Michael D. Smith, 26 of Elkton, MD, died suddenly Saturday, September 10, 2016.
He was born in Newark, DE, on April 5, 1990. Mike was a welder, employed by Schneck Construction. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery, boating and had just became a licensed captain. L. David Barker, 74, of Nottingham, PA passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016 at his home. Born in Grant, VA he was the son of the late Wiley J. and Gladys Mary Howell Barker. David was a veteran of the US Army. He was employed with General Motors in the Boxwood Plant, Wilmington, DE. He retired in 2003 after 34 years of service. He was a member of the Roy W. Gibson Post #535 American Legion, Oxford, Ocklokonee Tribe #212 I.O.R.M., Oxford and NRA. He enjoyed Farming, tractors, fishing, hunting, black powder guns, reading history books and his dogs. Dolores Ann Ford, 67 yrs, of Perryville, MD, passed away Friday, September 9, 2016 at her residence. Born December 1, 1948 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Gertrude A. Kohler Hopkins.
Dolores is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Arthur G. Ford III of Perryville, MD; son, Arthur G. Ford IV of Perryville, MD; daughter, Lynda K. Shrewsbury and husband, Marc, of Perryville, MD; four grandchildren; and brother, Joseph A. Hopkins, Jr. Miriam H. Herr of Nottingham, PA, died of heart and respiratory failure on September 4, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James S. Herr, founder of Herr Foods, Inc. Together they had five children: June Gunden, wife of Doug Gunden, Peachtree City, GA; James M. Herr, husband of Lois Herr, Nottingham, PA; Edwin Herr, Nottingham, PA; Gene Herr, husband of Terri Herr, Kirkwood, PA; and Martha Thomas, wife of Daryl Thomas, Kirkwood, PA. She is survived by 20 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Miriam (“Mim”) Herr was born in Paradise, PA, on November 29, 1926. She is survived by six siblings: Mary, married to John Darras of Leola, PA; Ruth, married to Roy Book of Ronks, PA; Rhoda Nolt, Landis Homes, PA; John Hershey, Quarryville, PA; Isaac Hershey, Sun City, AZ; Gerald Hershey, Carolina Beach, NC. She is preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Rutt Rohrer. |
